Thank you, Tzoya. I just called, and it is not full so I am going to fax in a registration form. My husband will probably have to miss work (commission-based) so I can go, but it seems worth it. Thanks again.

Anyone who is interested should sign up IMMMEDIATELY. I've signed up for the Wrightslaw LI Boot Camp this Nov. and it cost me 0, so this is an AMAZING opportunity. For some, it would be cheaper to travel to this site and pay for an overnight stay at a hotel than to wait for it to come closer to your area and have to pay 0!
bump!Sounds interesting. I have so had no good experience with this school system and have not found one program/placement that I am longing to get my child into that I don't think knowing the laws helps me. Are they going to change all the administrators? That is the only hope, the way I see it.

Go to www.wrightslaw.com and search "Carter." Shannon Carter's case might help you. You'd need a lawyer for the hearing, but you CAN get the Disrtrict to pay for an appropriate private school IF they are not providing FAPE. So knowing how to judge what constitutes FAPE is critical. KNOWING the law is just Step I. Pete Wright knows all kinds of great techniques to use to ENCOURAGE your school district to comply. Knowing how to negotiate is at least as important as knowing the law. I think if you are within commuting distance to this FREE seminar, it will definitely be worth your time. You'll learn FAR more than you can learn here.
