What about these recalled toys? | Autism PDD

I just found out today that a toy manufactured and sold from 2001 to 2002 is recalled and we have it.  It is a Thomas the Tank Engine top with a red handle.  The boys used to chew on the handle which is the part that contains lead.  I called the company that made it and I asked why is is being recalled after six years???? They said that a father bought a home lead test kit and found lead in it and he called the company.  The company did their own test and determined it did have lead.  Makes me wonder how many other toys I have in my home are full of lead since they hardly test them.  I am sooo scared that these toys may have something to do with their delays.  I am having them tested for lead again, they had it done when they were babies, but think of how much more they could have been exposed to. Anyone else feel this way, has anyone taken all their "made in China" toys away? I think I would need a tractor trailer to take all the "made in China" toys out of this house!!!!

Freaked out,

KellyIt's not your fault! It's happening to everyone. I think they sell relatively inexpensive test kids at the hardware store, you could possibly try that on some of their toys.... If you child mouthed or chewed toys that are now known to have high lead levels, you might ask the pediatrician about a quickie blood test for your child.  The neurologist who sees Cole now and then ordered it as a "rule-out" test...she said some traits of autism look like those from lead poisoning. It's scary stuff.....Jessie had about 8 toys on the last recall from Fisher Price!  A bunch of Dora/Diego and Elmo stuff.  I may request a lead test just to be sure, she has an appt. w/the dr next week.  I felt bad having to take away some of her favorite toys too!
