He’s Very Excited about Pre-School | Autism PDD

Share

Same situation here, school started yesterday and it went GREAT for both kids. Zoe is in the 2nd grade and Skylar is in PPCD (preschool program for children with disabilities) He is in a class with 6 (not including him) other autistic children and he LOVES it.

GOOD LUCK!

Anthony will be attending typical pre-school at the same school (parochial school) his big bro attends.  Yesterday, we attended open house.  I talked to the school about him last year, full disclosure on the dx.  The teacher asked him his name when he walked in and said "There's my Anthony, I'm so happy you're here".  He loved looking around the room and had fun trying all the new toys.

He found some little cubes with letters on them (they snap together like legos) and spelled his name.  He then went and showed it to the teacher.  He was delighted with himself.

He interacted with the other kids a little bit.  They all basically kept to themselves unless someone else had a toy they wanted to play with.  He approached one little boy and asked if he could have a turn at something the boy was playing with.  The little boy shared and they played together for a few minutes.

The pre-schoolers enter through a different door than the big kids.  The teachers wait by that door and greet the kids as they come in.  We went to see what door it was so he would be familiar with it when he starts school tomorrow.  Then last night the whole family rode bikes over there so he could show his Dad what door to drop him off at.  You could tell he was really proud to show him where the door was.  He told me that he doesn't want anyone to walk him to the door, he wants to do it himself - LOL.

I told him that he'll have to go to bed early tonight because he has to get up early tomorrow.  This morning he woke up early and came to me (you know how cute they look when they're blinking back the bright lights) and said "I wake up early Momma, like you told me".  I could've squeezed the stuffing out of him  - he was so cute.  I told him it was great that he practiced but he had to get up early on Wednesday not Tuesday - LOL.

Ahh. that's so great! It sounds like he will love it.
