Adam is at "Camp Middle School" right now. He is going into 7th grade and the middle school/highschool are in the same building, so they have a 1/2 a day when the kids go through their schedule without anyone else in the building. My DH dropped him off and there wasn't anyone there to direct them. Fortunately his first class is gym and he told his dad he knew where to go. So, off he went. happy as can be.
So how come I feel like this....
next yr is middle school - in the same building but NERVOUS anyway....
have butterflies in belly this am!
they do better than we think though!
I felt like I was feeding Sarah to the wolves this morning..they wouldnt let parents walk them to class and had her go with the mob down the hall...I was so nervous it made me nauseous..of course I emailed her teacher and all was right as rain:) It never is as bad as our worried minds can conjure up:) I least I hope not..dont want to jinx myself:PUpdate: He did really well. He told his dad not to walk him in, and he said he had a great day. He told me they showed him where to get the bus in the afternoon. At the West entrance. I didn't think he would understand that. But he is very confident. He put all of his stuff in his locker and is looking forward to day one on Tuesday. I am so proud of him.
P.S. They had a hot dog lunch and he found the one boy he has talked to this summer so he didn't sit alone. THis is the first time he didn't sit alone at lunch. This is progress. I hope it continues.
GREAT JOB ADAM! Adamsmom, I actually made myself sick with worry when my son started in Middle School, That was two weeks ago. He has done well so far. We are hoping it continues. We are working closely with resource room Teachers. Like your son, mine is mainstreamed in Social Studies, Science and his specials, but he goes to resource room for everything else, he also has social skills class once a week with Autism trained teachers. He does not have homework yet. We have already had one meeting at the Middle School just to make sure everybody's on the same page with his IEP, and to meet all of his teachers. I am now just starting to relax about it. I hope Adam has a good day today, let us know how it goes.I think the transition to middle school will be even more nerve-wracking for us than the transition to elementary school -- well, that is if we send our son to the local middle school (that's a huge if right now).
Hang in there, and good luck to Adam. He sounds like a real trooper.
My oldest will be starting middle school next year. I'm dreading it. New school, new teachers, lots of classroom changes during the day, and back to being among the youngest in the school. That said, he's actually excited about it.
Adam will probably surprise you. I hope his day goes great!
