Welcome to the board. You will find lots of strength and a world of awesome advice and links to all types of info.
Glad to have you!
Hello, fairly new here too. I have learned a lot already!
Thanks again to all! Here is a little history about my daughter. She was born premature, did not walk until she was 2. She was diagnosed with a rare metabolic disorder that is called methyglutaconic hydratase defiency. She started receiving services provided by the state at age 8 months, she had PT, OT and when she started preschool they incorporated speech due to not processing information. She articulates her words perfect but more like she repeats what she hears and has a hard time conversing back and forth like NT children.
Like I said Iam not sure if she is autistic but my gut tells me as a mom she does. She did terrible in Kindgarten-not acedemically, more behaviorial problems and not following directions.....especially behind in social skills. Gina interacts with children and likes them alot. She repeats herself often and I do believe that is how she processes information. She gets stuck on things such as same foods and has terrible sleeping patterns since birth.
I also think it is possible she has ADHD, very hyper cannot sit still and focus, very loud and can be quite disruptive in school. Iam hoping she has a better year in 1 st grade. I had to move to get her in a better school system to get her the proper IEP for school. I have major anxiety about school, but all I can do is Pray it will get better.
She sees a pychologist every week, due to I found out on top of all my little girls delays, I found out last Xmas her Father my ex-husband sexually abused her for a short period of time. Thats another problem with caused major behavorial issues. Its been a long road and I almost had a nervous breakdown, but I have regained my strength but somtimes I need to talk to others who relate. I have been through so much myself personally as Iam a breast cancer survivor ...........It has been 10 years cancer free!
I am sorry this is so long but I wanted to give some background about my daughter and myself. Again thanks for the warm welcome, I have been trying to find a group I can relate to and find people who understand my story.
People here are very accepting, and whether your daughter "really has" ASD or not should not matter -- it sounds like many of therapies discussed here would help her! Welcome to the forum. My son was 6 when he started the evaluation process, too. Good luck with everything, and let us know if you have any questions along the way. hi and wlecome i am shell mum of 6 one with autism one with aspergers one with traits one with lbd i also have AS glad to have you here shell http://groups.msn.com/autismaspergersinthefamily Thank you for welcoming me, I will need some support and friends that understand!
We jsut started first grade with a 21-page IEP ... she LOVES first grade, and despite paying lip service to it, I think she was very unhappy in Kindergarten. Could not keep up. Hello to all the parents! Iam new to this board, I have a 6 yr old daughter and Iam in the process of finding out if my daughter is autistic. As a Mom I have sensed she does have some characteristics of autism. I really need some support and Iam happy I found this board. Thank You and I hope to make some friends here! tanglewood67 You have had more than your share of challenges in the last decade, and I hope this group can contribute to some smoother sailing for you. If your daughter has autism, the challenging sensory environment at school can contribute in a major way to attentional and behavioral problems. Did the OT uncover any sensory issues? If you're not sure, you can try this checklist: http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.com/sensory-processin g-disorder-checklist.html Good luck with everything. Hello NorwayMom Yes she used to get OT when she was smaller, and she had a wonderful therapist. She does not get that anymore, but I always tell the teachers she has sensory processing disorder. My little one is terrible afraid of Lawn mowers which creates havoc in th summmer for us. Well I found out today the dx if she indeed has any form of autism etc. My appt is at 11:00 am. I will be relieved and hope I get some answers before school starts next week. Thank You so much for replying, Iam soooo happy I found this site! I will give an update later on what the neurophych. dx is.
My 5 year old dd was just dx last month. It sounds like there are a lot of kids around this age just getting dx. I think some of the signs really start to stand out more when they are around their peers more often.
Good luck with your testing!
