B6 and Magnesium can be compounded into suspension form with a doctors script. If you can't go that route mixing it with Cranberry juice does help a bit. It use to take 2 of us to give him his vitamins.I use to mix it with a tiny bit of juice, put it in a syringe and squirt it in. It was easier on him it seemed then hiding it in his food. It is very bitter tasting so mixing it with something sweet helped a time or too. now that they are compounded (with flavoring added) he opens up his mouth, I squirt them in, he says thank you and he on his way. Good Luck to you!!
Spicegirl,
The Autism Research Institute in San Diego has a wealth of info on different therapies. I recommend talking to your doctor before starting any of them. Here is the links to their website. I hope it helps.

We have noticed a huge change in our son. We took him off his vitamin Therapy for two weeks last month after being on it for a year, to see if there would be any changes. By day four he no longer had eye contact, he stopped speaking, and had melt downs every time we turned around. We put him back on it and he is back to being our little boy, talking up a storm. Most people don't even realize that he is Autistic when he is on the therapy.
we started, 1 pill = 3 jelly beans, or a piece of gume reward.
bribery is the only thing i can promote
kate I have to give Matthew a ton of vitamins and minerals now and it is not easy. He does ok with the liquid stuff, I just mix it with his fruit punch and he just gulps it down real quick. But omg the powder stuff is a battle, no matter what I mix it with or try to hide it in I have to fight him to take it. I read somewhere that if you mix it with an acidic juice such as apple or orange then that masks the taste somewhat. Well, I did that and it helped A LITTLE. But not enough, I still have to stand there and as he screams hurry up and dump it in his mouth and pray he isn't going to spit it out (which he has a time or two). I just keep trying to think of ways to make this easier, afterall he will probably have to take these vitamins/minerals for a long time. Any suggestions would be appreciated...
karrie OMG, we're going thru the same thing here!!! we can do the liquid right in the mouth and the super nu thera in his oj but the B6 and the magnesium are awful, he can actually smell them as soon as I open the capsules. he isn't a huge fan of pudding( I won't put it in food he likes for fear of him not eating) so i mix 1 whopping teaspoon of chocolate pudding, with his vitamins/supplements and cover it with hersheys chocolate sauce. I mix it altogether and tell him it's brownie mix ( he keeps asking "where are the bownies?" figueres all the dang mix he's eating but where are the actual brownies LOL) it still is a small battle, it's out of the ordinary for me to offer the mix to him but he reluctantly eats it. Best of luck to you!! Eileen Karrie, we are sneaking them in. Of course it really wouldn't matter if I told him as he wouldn't understand that kind of concept anyway. He notices the smell as Eileen said and also he sees that his drink looks different. I've tried putting it in his sippy with a lid so he can't see it, but again he notices the smell and taste. Eileen, I can't give Matthew pudding as we just found out he is gluten intolerant. And he really doesn't eat anything else that I could mix it with. His food consists of bacon and chicken nuggets plus gluten free crackers and nuts. Hello--new to your forum. I've got a 4 1/2 yr old PDD-NOS Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde boy. As he's grown, so have his behaviors and I'm at a breaking point as to what to do about his meltdowns. Last summer, we had him tested for food allergies, and discovered quite a bunch, which helped a lot. Now I'm wondering about vitamins. I've been reading your posts and wondering about vitamin therapy. Have you all really noticed a difference in behavior after starting up with vitamins? It seems like such a struggle to administer them, so it must be worth it. We're off to the pediatrician's tomorrow to rule out any medical issues, so I'll get her take on vitamin usage. I sure would appreciate hearing if vitamins have really made a difference and how. Thanks! Ginger
