Low tone - Foods that help | Autism PDD

Share

Is there something I should be giving me daughter more/less of to help her muscle tone? She has started to flop excessively...at all times in the day. I am scared.

Her calcium intake is rediced to what she gets from 6oz of milk and 4oz of yogurt (basically 10 oz of dairy per day).  Is the lack of calcium causing this??

Please help! Anything I can do to help her nutrionally besides OT/PT and swimming etc??

Supposedly the orgin of low tone is the brain, not the muscles.

However a kid who feels energized, and moves more, is better able to develop feedback from muscles to brain ... so a good balanced diet with lots of vitamins, and minerals, and other nutrients would help.

Yes, it's neurological.  It often improves with age, and can be compensated for with overall fitness (when she's older) - OT and PT might help her develop strength - you're on the right track, keeping her active and stuff.

May need more protien in her diet..get her iron checked.  Try to get her eat peanut butter which is high in protein.  Sarah hates meat but loves pb/jelly sandwiches.  We also got her to eat cheese sticks and pudding. They now have vitamin enhanced flavored water which may help too. Good luck!

I'm not sure how old your dd is but my son, hypotonia, went from being unable to sit at 9 months to walking at 13 months. He has moderate hypotonia but therapy was the key. We spent hours daily at home working on increasing strength.

If you're scared do you think you need to see your doctor?
