this site tells you how to write your own social stories for your children,  it also brings up a good point that social stories train children to have only one response to a given situation,  I really never thought of it in that way but when you think about it ,  it makes sense.    I still think though they are a good teaching tool for everyday situations.

hi

i also  make them for members of my group and myself

Thanks for posting that link.  I strongly believe in social stories as a teaching tool.  Kids with autism don't just "pick up" all the information they need to know to get through their day, and social stories help by making that information explicit, often combined with visuals.  Hearing the stories frequently helps them absorb the information.

I'm not a stickler about the ratio of different types of sentences myself.  I just try to make a story that is informative and engaging.

For more social story samples and tools, see this topic on our forum:

Love social stories:)

Jed Baker has a book:
" The Social skills Picture book" with social scripts and pictures of real kids and situations that my dd loved.  I also loved the modelmekids dvd for social skills for our kiddos..using real kids too:)
