Anyone used this medication for GI issues?  It has some very interesting effects -- antidepressant, appetite stimulant ... and some other stuff.

Just read The Boy Who Loved Windows and her son had good results with it.  His SID symptoms improved, as well as his appetite.

I am mostly curious because I have a kitty with GI problems on it and it seems like it really helps him, and his mood is improved, too!  Wit hvery few undesirable side effects ...

kitty or kiddy?

Yes, we have used it for 2 months. it did increase his appetite but the effects didn't last. it also improved his overall state. he was more playful, slept better, interacted more. Apparently you can't use it long term. we are headed back to therapy at the hospital for feeding aversion and failure to thrive.

beginner, it is used in BOTH species (and a few other!).  In my case it IS my cat!  For vet use, long term IS okay.

Interesting use of it, and I wondered if it was "off-label" or otherwise used differently in humans.  I am also on a cat-owner forum and it is used pretty often in Veterinary practice, I had not really heard of it before my cat went on it, and suddenly it popped up in this book, too!

Our dd is on it & off it for almost 2 yrs now. She was put on it at first to
hopefully help w/ sleep issues & increase appetite. It helped her sleep a
little at first, no change in appetite. She went off of it for a while, then back
on because she was having constant runny nose. We just took her off again,
as we increased seizure meds for mood, & wanted to do this just on trileptal.
We have seen short-term effects in some areas. One I really remember is
she used to rub her eyes/nose ALL THE TIME. She'd have cuts from this.
That seemed to improve. My ds had no side effects...the kitty thing confused me
