My daughter, who is five, just lost her tooth.
A few weeks back, I told her that her teeth would eventually fall out, and that they would grow back.
She started to be concerned-- almost obsessed by this subject. Not constantly thinking of it-- but frequently bringing it up in conversation.
This week her tooth became loose. I suspect that-- given her concern and her frequent trips to the mirror to look at her teeth-- she pulled her tooth to make it loose.
She lost her tooth last night. I didn't find a tooth. She may have swallowed it.
Here's my concern: there's a significant piece of tooth left. I don't think it's her new tooth, because it's all off to one side. I think she pulled out her tooth herself prematurely.
Is that a problem? Will that hinder the growth of a new tooth?
I'm no dentist, but here are my thoughts.
Will she let you get a good look in her mouth? In my experience with my son, new teeth can come in quite crooked and sometimes even show up behind the old teeth well before they're loose. So to me it seems more likely that the new tooth is coming in crooked than that she somehow managed to break her old tooth (unless she used a blunt object).
If you can't look, can you feel? I would think a broken tooth would have a sharp edge, whereas a new tooth would have a smooth or ridged edge.
Btw, my son apparently swallowed his first couple lost teeth, with no harm done.
Good luck with everything!
HI HUN
