weighted belts? | Autism PDD

I haven't heard of the belts but I have heard of blankets or jackets. I am
bit hyposensetive myself and my whole life i have preferred wearing
heavy shoes and heavy jackeets and heavy blankets on the bed.
Lightweight cllothing always made me feel like hyperventilating. So i can
realate. My ds likes to wear heavy stones in his pockets.
I guess I would check with O.T. if there is any bodypart where heavy items
could cause physical problems.

My 9 year old ASD son has gotten a lot of benefit from weighted items, but be sure to use them only under supervision and advice of your OT. Too much weight, or for too long can cause damage to joints & muscles.

We used a weighted vest, and I made 2 wieghted blankets he still uses.

I haven't heard of this. I guess it's the same as the weighted jackets and blankets. Some kids need that extra weight on them to help them feel settled or for the sensory satisfaction it gives. Talk to your OT and see if it's worth trying. I didn't find my boys needed it. They both benefited from other  OT methods tho, if you have a good OT she'll be able to asses and advise you if it suits your childs sensory needs.

The word 'miracle' thrown in there is a bit odd tho
