Sorry to bombard with questions today. I am new to a lot of these things. I just got dd's report back from the psychologist who assessed her. I am a little confused about the ADOS scoring. It has an area for dd's score, autism cutoff and autism spectrum cutoff. When they say autism spectrum do they mean the other 4 disorders that aren't autism?
Well, here are her scores on that and maybe somebody can explain. It says in the report the PDD-NOS is a suggested dx based on these scores (and later is given as the dx after the DSM-IV portion is finished).
dd's score Autism Cutoff Autism Spectrum Cutoff
Communication Total 3 5 3
Reciprocal Social 6 6 4
Comm+Recip total 9 12 8
Are they saying below 8 is NT? Is 8-12 where PDDNOS and Asperger's fall and over 12 where classic autism falls?
Thanks in advance. This is the one area of the report that is still confusing me. Not sure if it makes a difference, but it says module 2 was used.
lmodule two just means the age range the child falls into
lucas scored
5 out of 8 communication a score of 2 or more indicates the possibilty of ASD
6 out of 14 social interaction a score of 4 or above indicates the possabilty of ASD
imagination 8 out 14 a score of 4 or more indicates a possibilty
aspergers will only be diagnosed if there has never been any speech delay
pdd/nos is given when not all of the diagnostic criteria is present but enough problems to cause impairments
from your scores and if no speech problems then it should be AS
if speech problems HFA
when lucas gort his dx he was diagnosed with Autism
i argued my case because he had never had speech problems
they changed his dx to ASpergers syndrome

She said it was not a clear autism dx based on the DSM-IV. Dd had 4 severe areas and 2 mild and the print says something to the effect of areas marked severe are ones that meet criteria. So, I'm guessing that is where she got the PDD-NOS dx from? Dd did have a language disorer/delay so she ruled out Asperger's.
At the end of the assessment paper it should have a section which starsts with
conclusion
what does it say he fails on
this is the triad of impairments which it the main criteria for autism
[The following is from Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders: DSM IV]
(I) A total of six (or more) items from (A), (B), and (C), with at least two from (A), and one each from (B) and (C)
(II) Delays or abnormal functioning in at least one of the following areas, with onset prior to age 3 years:
On the ADOS, a score of 12 or above is classic autism. A score of 7-11 is an autism spectrum disorder. In other words PDD-NOS...... unless you're child qualifies for an asperger's dx, or Rhetts or childhood disintegrative disorder.
When we got back Adam's results on the ADOS, it gave us his score, the breakdown and detailed explanation of how they came up with that score...for instance, he didn't do this...he only did this three times....yadda yadda yadda. Then they went through the DSM-IV stuff and gave the dx.
I'm not sure about the cut off of an 8 on your paperwork for an ASD. Adam was dx'd by Dr. Amy Weatherby at Florida State University's autism research project who is developing a new form of the ADOS and doing other stuff and I was told the cut off was 7. Adam scored an 8.
pdd/nos is the corrct diagnosis in my opinion but only just
your daughter does have imapiairments with the triad of impairments but not enough for a dx
But there have been cases when diagnosis has been changed if you believe that it was wrong you should see an independant proffesional
pdd/nos covers the whole of the disorders on the autistic specrum so the services should be the same
hope this helped hun
