OK Everyone, I need help
I have a extra large family 38 on my side and 41 on DH's side, and they all want to know what to get Devin for christmas ( yes we all have started christmas shopping, crazy huh) anyway I have run out of ideas
Please, Please Please, any ideas Thank you Grandma to Devin 3 yrs ASD / SID What about some play equipment for outside Like a cubby or a fort? I got a cubby house for my older 2 children whe they were 2 & # and Lachlan now uses it. We like books and videos best. If your grandson likes being read to or watching tv and has some special interests, I might be able to recommend something. Gear toys and Mr. Potato Head are good toys. Here's a link to a Gear toy product: OT gear that you can get anywhere - mini tramoline - hammock - excercise ball - reg stuff - flash lights - action figures from fave movies - dressing-up gear - are all among my kids faves - You can try hitting the search button, I bet there are heaps of great ideas in earlier posts, i saw one not long ago. I always ask for Signing Time DVD's......... Both of my children LOVE them and both of my children now use sign language daily. (For my son, sign language was very useful until he learned to talk). When we have visiting friends, all their kids seem to love Signing Time, with great songs and lots of kids in the videos. They are expensive, however. Also, this year for his birthday, when everybody asked what to get John - I said we would really like him to participate in a summer therapy play group not covered by insurance. The family got together and paid for the sessions as his birthday gift. Look at the IKEA website. They have really cool swings, things that rock, cute chairs, and all in fun colors. Plus it is a great price!! I also ask for clothes. I can't afford to deck my kids out in GAP attire, but someone buying a gift might! I love that. We started collecting wooden Thomas train toys when my oldest was small. There are a lot of products in the Thomas line, and my son often got a new train or accessory as a gift. My youngest son still plays with them. Plah Doh is always great too. There are lots of different sets, and we can always use more of the Plah Doh itself. My kids also liked all of the Little People play sets. Wooden puzzles with the peg handles on the pieces. A Play Hut pop-up tent shaped like a fire truck. Sit-N-Spin Mr. Potato Head Books My youngest loved his Little Tikes toy vacuum cleaner. He would mimic me when I vacuumed. Recently, people have recommended www.hearthsong.com and www.toystogrowon.com. I also like www.beyondplay.com. They have a lot of great educational and sensory toys. Tom loves swings, slides, trampolines and anything water related. Also drawing and painting and looking at picture books and playing with blocks. Wow alot of ppl and gifts, I love a lot of the ideas my fav is clothes, my 3 are always out growing or ruining their clothes Why not some a few sizes to big. Blanket set with his fav superhero or vehical. Art supplys Or even have them donate a few toys to the local hospital or shelters or a money donation with his name on it. I know a lot of children who are not reciving gifts this year who would love a gift from another child just to know that at least someone out there cares enough for them. My kids were extreamly thankful when a familt came last year saying santa lost his way and left a few gifts at their place for them. I cried many happy tears knowing that even though I could not get more then a toy each they had a nice x-mas and the family stated to watch them open their gifts and get to know each of my kids. I love the websites for Therapro and Different Roads to Learning. Both have really great things that are targeted to ASD kids. Sensory toys -- Playdough was a BIG winner. Memberships -- to the Y or a pool or for gymnastics or swim lessons or to the zoo. ANYTHING that had to do with his big obsession-- exotic animals. Books are at the top of the list, even today. When he was younger, videos. Tickets to plays and movies. McDonald's gift certificates. Magnadoodle. Thank you all for the ideas!!! There are so really great Ideas there, I knew I could count on you guys, you never disapoint me EVERaj LOVES toy jets.
that's alot of christmas presents to find storage for. I'd ask for amazon.com gift certificates. THen you can have a little stash for when you see something you absolutely want for him. Seems like amazon.com has lots of great stuff from bouncy houses to swing sets. We get too much stuff. The very best gift my children have recieved is a savings bond each birthday and Christmas from a certain aunt & uncle. When the kids were very little they would include a small token gift to open and include the bond in the card. Over the years my kids have considerable savings balance. Ds will need every penny when he gets older.
Okay, I can never figure out how to add links here so I'll have to do it this way (sorry)
my parents give him a new winter coat(usually a high end one that I couldn't afford), snow boots and hats & a few pairs of gloves from my parents. This may not be his favorite gift but I am thrilled with it.
If you go to www.hearthsong.com and type in "singing tops" in the
search, you'll see one of my boys favorite toys ever!!! Their's
isn't quite like the ones Hearth Song sells now (we've had it a few
years) but does pretty much the same thing. Plus they are super
durable!
Another great place to shop is www.huggaplanet.com They
have huggable globes! Educational and fun! My boys have had
their's for years and still play with it.
