Thanks for all the great advice. Unfortunately, he is now scared to go to music class and he was really fussy at school this morning. He kept grabbing on to me so the assistant Principle had to take him and walk him to his class. He kept saying that I should tell his teacher that he doesn't like music class. If he's going to be fretful and afraid what good is that? I don't know if he's making excuses because he sure loves listening to Sean Paul (singer) in my car and on his sister's iPod.
I will discuss with the ESE teacher. I am sure she's come across this issue before.
hi
getting a child to interact and enjoy something involves doing someething the child is interested in
ask the tacher to listen to some music he likes let him choose what the music lesson is.
and wean him back that way
music is so good for any child not just a child with ASD
ask the teacher for a compromise because unless he enjoys it he will not do it

I suggest AIt cd's cause real life is not quite for us all. This should help your child tolerate noises better in the environment. May be you can find these on ebay for less money. You used them for 2 weeks. They are like this from hyper acusis. Daniel had this and now no more ear covering. Here's a link to child size ear protectors in blue...
My son's homeroom teacher sent a note home that in music class today he was fine but she thought it was a bit too loud for him. I had a discussion with her this morning regarding the music teacher and how she talks to my son. His teacher told me she would talk to the music teacher and let her know about Chris' dx. His teacher went with him to music class today to observe him.
My question is can I and should I pull him from Music? He likes instruments and even drums as long as he controls the sounds. He gets frightened when he cannot control them and doesn't know when to expect the noise.
Any advice?
a big no
get him some ear mufflers(defenders) they will drown out most of the noise and should make it tolerable
music is wonderful for our kids and teaches a lot more than music it promotes turn taking listening skills visual skills and interaction skills
try the ear mufflers before you decide

I agree earmuffs or ear plugs might be enough for him to be able to stay in class. You might want to get some suggestions from your Autism expert at School, these are the kind of issues they really can help with. Thank your Teacher for noticing, sounds like she or he is watching out for your child.
