Ok I have been on wrightslaw and there is so much information to digest it is overwhelming! my ds has been diagnosed with adhd and dyspraxia. The Dr told me that he doesn't have aspbergers or bipolar as we thought before. So now he is going to give me the report to give to the school and request a meeting. My question is will they give me the runaround about this? I have been battling this school since day one ! Any help would be greatly appreaciated!
I do not have Tzoya's expertise, but from what I have gone thru, school districts and Regional centers are not going to hand you "00" or more a month and say "Hey .. go get ABA and speech and OT"... U have to fight for it. And if you are not confrontational (like me

Is your son currently classified in the special education system in your school disrtrict?
The BEST thing to do for ANY parent in the United States who wants to know how to get what their child needs from the school district is to order From Emotions to Advocacy from Wrightslaw and to learn to follow those recommendations EXACTLY. Medical diagnoses are NOT necessary in order to get school services. Sometimes they can be helpful, sometimes not. You do not have to show your school district a single thing from your doctor (as long as you did not get the eval at school district expense) unless you want to. And I wouldn't show them ANYTHING that might cause them to reduce services. School services are based on decisions made by the IEP Team. And the IEP TEam does not need medical diagnoses to make decisions -- only educational testing.
Get that book and you'll know far more about how to help your child.
