Tricycle Reccomendation? | Autism PDD

We too have the rock, roll and ride...worked great for helping them learn to pedal, and if your ds is anything like my ds, lol, he would get bored with the bike half way through the walk and want to walk so it was easier for me to push it along than have to carry it!

He doesn't ride it very often anymore, since he learned to ride his bike with the training wheels, but like Kristy said....very durable!

My son's first tricycle was a gift, and it had fat, hard and smooth plastic wheels.  They made the tricycle almost impossible to pedal on our gravel road.  You probably don't live on a gravel road, but I thought I'd throw it out there. My son had two trikes the big metal one from Grandma which went
incredibly fast and the "Hot wheel kind". He loved them both. Why not take
him to toys r us and let him pick one? Better yet check to see what the
neighborhood kids are riding? My son would meet up with 2 -3
nieghborhood kids and race with them.

another vote for the rock n roll trike by fisher price, about 35. i got mine for free on freecycle. its very low, i push from behind. my son trys to keep his feet on the pedals and it pedals for him so he gets the feeling for the motion. i do have to adjust his feet every minute or two. im considering velcro ties to keep his feet on. i saw one in the park lot of kreiger the other day but it was metal, very high, had feet clogs and strapss and could even be used bysomeone in a wheel chair. i didnt get the name but it cost a few hundred dollars.......not a good investmens since alot of our children never get into riding bikes.

hope this helps.

We also have the Rock, Roll and Ride. We got it at a preschool resale for and we are on year 2. So, it lasts. He still likes to have a little push sometimes,

We got a fisher price one that also has a parent push handle to help the little one get started...I think it is called rock, roll and ride

Rock, Roll and Ride is the way to go.

We bought these when the boys were 18 months old.  Seats are adjustable so easy to reach pedals.  They are 6 now, can ride two-wheelers and scooters like big boys, but still at least once per week get these things out of the garage and race on them.  My kids are HARD on stuff and these are in the minority of items that have stood the test of time.  A bonus too is you can easily push your son to get him started if he's having trouble pedaling.  Well worth the .

Hi- Id like to buy a tricycle for my 3.5 yo ds- he has never ridden one before. Does anyone have a brand or a link to one that they would reccomend? Should I start off with a "big wheels" type thing or go right to a tricycle?  Thanks in advance.

Big wheels.  They are lower to the ground and LESS DISTANCE TO FALL OFF!

And, please get a helmet, too!

I second the 'big wheel' idea.  These were easier for my girls to peddle, by far.  Cheap, too.  Only drawback is hard plastic tires tend to sping on pavement so sometimes it's hard to get them started.  A big-wheel with rubber wheels would be awesome! Thanks! anyone have a particular brand theyd reccomend? id love to order one online.CHEAP.  Cheap is good!
