He’s starting to use echolalia! | Autism PDD

That is really cool!!
Hooray for Jason!

Yes, be ready to hear some "interesting" things down the road:

One of the first sentences dd said was "Clean up, you idiot!" To this day,
still don't know where it came from, I am guessing a Disney princess
movie or something (sounds like an evil stepmother! LOL!).

The other day at McDonald's, dd said "Joe Momma!!" real sassy-like. My
older dd said that was from Spongebob.

No f-bombs here yet...but, I imagine those "sentence ehancers" will be
heard before too long...

Evie.....that is so very awesome.  What joy a few little words make in our lives.

I remember prior to my son being verbal that I would have loved for him to drop the "f-bomb".

Good for you guys.  May the talking continue and the verbage be clean. heheh

How awesome Evie!

I'm so happy for you and ds!!!!

This is such an exciting time...enjoy it!

I agree, be prepared to hear a thing or two you weren't expecting.
The F-bomb!

Seriously, though. I think that is FANTASTIC news! Nothing sweeter!

GO JASON!!!!!!! [quote](So I say until I hear an F bomb, or something)

Well, if you're hearing echolalia, you'd best either make sure he only hears clean words, or else prepare yourself, because if he hears it, it could pop out at any (that's right any) time. Good luck!

I cleaned up my language (hard, too, I was a sailor, after all!) once my oldest started talking, but Daddy still swears a lot. He's the one I'll have to keep shush-ing.  LOL!

awesome!!!

karrie

Oh my gosh, I'm so excited about this!  I was beginning to wonder if he would ever start using words again, and today was a banner day!  Three seperate instances of echolalia!

"ish" for fish as his speech therapist was saying to him.

"No" exactly as his younger brother said to him.

"Hey!" exactly as I said to his younger brother.

I am so incredibly over the moon about this!  It's wonderful, fabulous, great!  LOL  I know that it's light years from being functional language, but it's so sweet to hear clear words coming from his little mouth.

(So I say until I hear an F bomb, or something)

Just had to share!

That is great news Evie! This is just the begnning!Wooo hoooo Yayyyyyy

"Sentence enhancers"!  LOL  I love it..."spicy sentence sandwiches"!  I've seen wayyy too many episodes of Spongebob.  Thanks, kids!

Any Suggestions are welcomed

How excellent!!  I'm sooo happy for you both

Thanks, Allegra, but I think I got bit too excited.  There hasn't been another word out of him since, so I guess it wasn't the explosion I was hoping for.  That said, he spoke, so that means he's capable of it, at least to a modest extent, so I still have some hope that one day, he can start to express himself a little bit more through speech.

However, I think he's definitely not going to be comfortable using speech as his primary mode of communication for awhile, if ever.

So long as I can get him to communicate his wants/needs in SOME way, I'll be happy.  Hopefully, he'll start taking to the PECS soon.
