I am happy to see these success stories. I was riddled with anxiety about him riding the bus, but I am glad I made the decision.
yes Adam rides the bus. He rode the bus last year in pre-K also. It's a great experience for them I think.

I didn't do the bus his 2 years in preschool, but his teacher and aides also thought it would be a good transition for him between home and school. So I tried it last year...he didn't love it, but he didn't hate it either. When Nicholas was at a special ed only school he took the bus. This year he starts NT-K with an aid , but our town has no bussing. A new deal the state makes to get children in small towns to walk for exercise and then they give the school money for doing it.
CJ started riding the bus last Tuesday and it's going very well. It's a regular sized bus with an aide. There are about 12-15 special needs kids on the bus everyday. I was worried at first, but now my worries are subsiding. He has other health conditions but I know that I have to at least try this, especially since I need a better running car. I love the bus driver and the aide. And they are aware of his health conditions. Altogether a good experience thus far. He seems content although a little hot in the afternoon, 100-105 degree weather here in the southern US.Yes, riding the bus. He did it last year in pre-school and liked it. This year for kindergarten it is a mainstream bus and his two best friends (twins right down the street) will be riding it with him. I will drive him when they are not there in the mornings.
He wants to do what they are doing and I feel he is ready - especially since with a group of three kids, it is less likely older kids will bully them (I'm hoping that's the case at least!).
Yes, it helps him transition from home to school...it's the go between if you will that makes him go into "school-mode"I am planning on using the bus this year for my dd even though the school is only a half mile away. All her therapist think it will be a better transition since she has a hard time with seperating from me so her TSS will put her on the bus to start with.

This is our 4th year on the bus (2 years preschool, kindy last year and now 1st grade). The boys have also rode a bus to day camp for 3 years.
Why the bus? Because I couldn't come up with a single reason not to! The boys LOVE the bus!
