Siblings | Autism PDD

Ok, so I just joined tonight and I didn't see anything on here about siblings, except if thrown in during typing. I was just curious about how oftem siblings are effected? i know it is somewhat "genetic" but my doc (a great guy, but this comment bugged me) basically told me i had nothing to worry about with my daughter because she was a girl. My son is 2 1/2 and goes to the neurologist tomorrow for what I assume is the offical dx. School IEP just gave me "speech delay." But I can't help but watch for every single sign in my daughter (8 mos)....    Anybody wanna share?

The oldest is very gifted in music, art and always been in honor AP classes.  My youngest is very smart in music, art and academically ahead of peers too but has more trouble interacting with peers and expressing herself..

This is my lovely teen dd..I took this today:) I think she is gorgeous..and my youngest is a beautiful angel:)

Wow Shelley, your dd is BEAUTIFUL...they both are :)They are both cuties! My oldest daughter (4 years old) has ASD (yes it happens to girls). Her pediatric neurologist basically told me it was a really bad idea to have any more children because the risk of having more with ASD is high.  My younger daughter at 2 1/2 so far has not shown any red flags, other than what I think is a small speech delay which may be normal for the second child anyway.

Beautiful girls Shelly!

I have 4 children and only 1 had autism.

What I always find interesting in my family is I have 2 nephews also diagnosed with autism and another nephew that I believe is likely undiagnosed aspergers.  What's also curious is my grandmother was always "odd" in her interactions and how she lived her life.  I look back on her and wonder if she had autism or aspergers.  She was one of the sweetest women that you ever met but she would do things that made you scratch your head.  Like walking to the store every single day to buy one can of dog food instead of stalking up.  Can't diagnos her but it sure makes me think there is something to this genetic thing.

Beautiful pictures Shelly!

I have fraternal twin boys, 1 ASD and 1 NT.

You could also do a search - we have had LOTS of posts on siblings in the past!

I have one dd who is NT, but has a few minor quirks. Girls CAN have an ASD, but it is more common in boys.

I know what it is like to watch every single second to see if there is something amiss. Don't forget to enjoy your little one's babyhood as well or it will go by and you will have missed it!

Second, Kristy... I'm still kind of new to all the abbreviations. I get PDD-NOS... what's NT?  I had never even heard of hyperplexia until tonight and now it REALLY sounds like my son.... I'm learning as I go...lol

Christi  (hehe... cute name, huh?)

NT means neurotypical

I have 3 boys, one who has autism and and NT daughter.
