What to expect? Major UPDATE! | Autism PDD

That great.. Sounds like he is on his way to a great class with a great  teacher.. Keep us update don how well he does..  I will absolutely do that. YAY!! So HAPPY FOR YOU!!!! Sounds awesome - keep us posted. We had our IEP meeting yesterday with Skylar's teacher, and things went so well that just the thought of it brings tears to my eyes.

History on his teacher, she is also a mother of an autistic child (who is now 17), she absolutely fell in love with Skylar. We went over all of the services that he would be receiving and he is going to get speech therapy to start off twice a week. If they see that he needs more, then they will give more. He will get OT everyday in school, and the behavioral intervention is part of the curriculum, so he will get it everyday as well. She was totally amazed at his speech/vocabulary, his intelligence, and how affectionate he was. There was as instant bond between the two of them. He will be going to school M-F from 8-2. There will be 1 teacher (Mrs. Debbie) and 3 aides with 7 children in the class. We covered everything from her background, therapists, Fire Drills (and they schedule them to where the children of these PPCD classes are already outside due to auditory sensory issues), they will have assemblies, library, science lab, music classes, PE, art, recess and occasional field trips etc. Until yesterday before I met the teacher, I was unsure of letting him ride the bus, but after spending an hour with her, she did let me know that one of the 3 aides in his class will also be his aide on the school bus. So he will be familiar with this lady, comfortable with her and there should be no problems.

All I can say is...when I left that school yesterday, Skylar hugged her and said "see you later Mrs. Debbie" and she told me, that she could see now just by meeting with him once, that he was gonna be her baby. Through all of this, I have had such fear and horrible feelings and questioning whether or not I could go through with this, but I left that school yesterday ON CLOUD 9. My fear and anxiousness is totally gone and I am so pumped up about him starting school on Monday. I now know, that I have made the right decision for him and I couldn't be any happier. I really made a connection with his teacher because she has been through everything that I have been through with only worse. So she KNOWS what she is doing. Skylar was happy with her and that made ALL the difference in the world.

I AM HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!
Really pleased the meeting went well

I really hope so, that is the feeling I get, so I am just gonna run with it. I told his teacher yesterday, that on the first day, I am going to bring him and his sister to school that morning, but that afternoon, I want them to ride the bus home. Start the routine early. Starting on the second day of school they will be riding the bus to and from school everyday.

I have a good feeling about it. Lets just hope that my gut is right.
How did the meeting go? Hopefully no surprises!! Let us know how his first
day goes as well. Are you still working w/ ECI? Just curious--our dd is 3 &
is now w/ the SD not ECI. But, I remember tzoya saying the law changed. Of
course, it'll take TX three years to get a clue.    The IEP meeting is tomorrow 8/22/07 at 1:00 and I hope that all goes well. I will update you guys after the meeting is over. And definitely after the first day of school! well we have been through all of the testing and diagnoses, and found the program and school that he would be attending, and what services he would be recieving. All I was told is the the case worker with the school district (one of the 5 that did his assessments) needed to meet with me, skylar and skylar's new teacher. I asked her about the services that was stated in the paperwork, and to make sure that he was going to BE getting those services, and all she would say is that we are going to meet with his teacher and his teacher had to sign off on the final paperwork. I registered him in school last week and they assigned his teacher according to his age, gave me her name and that was it. So what is exactly is the IEP meeting? If i am understanding this correctly, the IEP meeting has happened, that is when they gave me the final dx and what services he would be receiving through the school district.
PPCD
Speech Services
Occupational Therapy
A Behavioral Intervention Plan to target specific behaviors for improvement.

This might be more of a finalization...like exactly how much speech he will be getting...what type of behavior interventions they plan on using.

Have you done this yet?

No, we have not done that yet. So this must be what the meeting is about.

That sounds about right. Maybe this is to get with the teacher, and the ECI manager to set up a schedule of the services. How many days a week, time length, etc.

I was told that this HAD to be done before the first day of school which is this coming Monday. So that makes me feel a bit better. That this meeting is to just finalize everything that is supposed to happen.

Thanks, that helped A LOT!
mandyanthony39315.4912384259 I am a meeting tomorrow at 1:00 with Skylar's ECI manager and his PPCD (pre-k program for children with disabilities) teacher, and I have NO idea as what I should expect. This is his first year in Early Childhood Intervention program, I have the papers of all of his testing, scores and what therapies he was going to be accepting according to his needs. But I am so anxious and don't know what I am supposed to expect.

Any suggestions or help here?  PLEASE!!
