Wandering Persons Alert (WPA) | Autism PDD

Thanks for posting this.  I think it's a very good idea, and I signed the petition.

Yeah

It should have been done long ago.

Its sad it took too many deaths for congress to do something.

I signed, and am forwarding it to everyone I know.

Thanks,Elle!

I too signed and forwarded it to everyone I know!Check this out--I know it's something we've discussed here previously,
following the heartbreaking deaths of Benjy & Kedan recently. It's a
Wandering Persons Alert petition, to enact something similar to an Amber
Alert. Remember, if an autistic child goes missing, unless there is proof of a
kidnap, there will be no Amber Alert. Something like this may just get the
extra manpower to find a child sooner.

WPA

That is a concerning thought snoopywoman.

I guess I didn't think of that--just that you would be getting more of an immediate response.

Hmmmm.......

I signed the petition and added this comment:

"Prevention is vital, but sometimes vulnerable children and adults wander off despite our best efforts.  Therefore quick and effective response is also essential.  If enacted, the Wandering Person Alert will help enable a quick and effective response possible and save lives."

Thanks for telling us about the petition.

Okay, I'm forwarding this to everyone, but here's a question that I know will come up:

Will this type of alert also alert predators to a vulnerable child/adult that could be taken advantage of?

Just some food for thought...

I did forward it to everyone I know and I also forwarded it to special ed teachers and support group leaders in addition to our former park & red adaptive programs director (who has already forwarded it to everyone on her list - which is quite extensive).

I do think it's a good idea - but the predator issue does concern me. I do wonder what they would do to try to prevent that - I can't see what they could do. I guess the point is to try to get everyone looking for the child/adult and then hopefully predators wouldn't want to take the risk of kidnapping a child who EVERYONE is looking for!
