day 3 of school ... | Autism PDD

My ds always had a very hard time in the beginning of the year - he'd
chew through T-shirts and develop ticks from being stressed. He also
could never tell me what happend and his teacher did not communicate
at all. He now finally has an IEP and I hope that gives me some more
insight.
But, what I ment to write was that after a few month my ds would make
progress and develop a routine and it would be a boost for his self-
esteem. Last year he'd come home and say "All kids want to play tag and I
hate it and cry and they call me baby and it's so unfair" But after a few
month practise he became the master of tag and will now go up to kids
on the playground and say 'Want to play tag with me?" and have fun doing
it.
I think it is true that our kids have to overcome more obstacles but when
they do it is also pretty sweet for them.
Tuhina will probably be overwhelmed in the beginning but she will gain
confidence once she learns that she can manage.

WHAM, it hit home!

She came home Friday with VERY LOW eye contact, and was exhausted.  Hoping this is not the start of a trend.  I am concerned that they started working into the assignments and it overwhelmed her.

So far when I asked she was not able to tell me she had met her special ed teacher, yet ... although she has had Speech.  Hopefully SpEd will go better?

Linda,

Sarah got really quiet and reserved in the beginning just trying to process it all:) She had more tantrums at home for awhile but not at school thank goodness.

I tried to get the teacher to write an note in a journal book I gave her of how Sarah's day went and to please give me at least one thing she did so that I could talk to her about it afterschool and the teacher did it for like 2 weeks and made me feel anal for making her do it because she felt Sarah was doing as well as all the other kids & why what was the point...so I stopped it.  I hope you get better communication than I did!

...this year I am going to insist on it because I not intimidated no more:) I found the teachers will do absolutely nothing if you let them...since Sarah is considered high functioning it is real easy for her to fall through the cracks..

I hope Tuhina gets in a routine soon..school for us starts next monday AND I am a nervous wreck!

To add to it, I now will have to get her AND HER LITTLE SISTER back into their bed for the night!  They both were doing so well over the summer ....

Daniel does ok the first 6 weeks since it's mostly review. After this is when he would feel upset. The harder the work the more upset he would get.

How about bip plans do any kids here have this for school? Last year we had a chart that let us know how the day went each day. if not so goood what the problem was.

1=talking when shouldn't

2=didn't follow teaher's request

3=workunfinished

4=unkind to other's

5=disrespect school property

6=inappropriate lang.

parent's had to sign daily and return. sticker's on good days!

Sorry to hear things are getting a little rough...it's still early and new for her and hopefully things will get into a good routine and will calm down for her.

Good luck to both of you!!
