over the "toy recall" | Autism PDD

I don't know about the rest of you, but living day-to-day with a ASD child, and continually hearing about lead containing toys that are being recalled on a almost bi-weekly basis has me about ready to spit fire. First of all, the first recall of the Thomas trains had me spinning, my son doesn't play with Thomas but alot of Autistic children DO. Lead exposure can and does cause the same neurological effects as Autism and unless ingested in large doses is hard to detect after a period of time. I guess my gripe is we live in a nation that has a very high rate of Autism, then you have companies that are U.S. based but having their products made in China(which has had its share of other recalls this year: toothpaste, petfood, shrimp, bibs, and now Toys) At what point, is the Gov't going to step in and say ENOUGH. No more "Made in China"???

The bad thing is if you go onto the recall sites, they have NO pictures, just the names and serial numbers of the toys.  Some of the toys were manufactured as far back as 2003 and as late as 2006.  I have some of these toys and have had them for years. Its alot more than just thomas and certain action figures. Alot of the toys are little people toys, grow to pro basketball and tons of others that arent' mentioned on the news. If you look at the list it makes you sick. And the latest with the baby bibs, I'm done buying ANYTHING  made in China. Even your coffee mugs are made there, are they painted with lead paint too? I'm sick of it. Perhaps the Gov't needs to look a little deeper into the "environmental triggers" of Autism, like say where are childrens toys are being made and what they are being made with. I shudder to think that anything  my child chewed on and still mouths could be the very thing that caused his system to re-wire
