The idea of a microboard is to supposedly make it easier for families to
access specific, tailored services for their child (or adult family member
with a disability). You can apply for government funds for servies - really
ideal in those areas where services don't exist, as you can essentially
design your own. The catch is that a)applying for funds doesn't mean
you'll get them and b)a microboard doesn't make up for a lack of skilled
service people in the community (if there's nobody to hire, what point is it
having money?).
Google VELA Microboards. They're active throughout the province, so
hopefully you'll find something in your area.
Not sure if it's an option for you, but the best services for autism in
Canada are in Alberta...
No experience here, I just wanted to say I hope the help you need for this major project comes quickly and easily to you and your family. I was thinking of you yesterday and hoping you were having a mellow summer. Please keep us updated on this, I am interested in more info on this *microboard* - honestly never heard of it, but I like the idea. Is this something Community Living Services can help you with?? (I haven't had much luck with them here in Castlegar, but I'm eternally hopeful that someone in BC is receiving better service from them than us)

Does anyone have any experience with this? We are setting up a microboard
for Donny (a small non-profit society designed solely to support him). I
have to think of what I want for him, in order to request it. I have to find
5-7 people, in unpaid relationship with Don, to sit on the board. I need to
write a care plan for him.
Talk about a big undertaking! The hardest part of requesting services is not
knowing what's available. I mean, of course I'd love for him to have the
moon and the sky and everything in between...but what's the point of asking
if the services don't exist (which is a huge problem in our area).
