I would recommend "P's and Q's" they can be found in the Super Duper catalog. Unlike the chew tube, spit does not seems to be as big of problem. WhenDS uses the chew tube, there is a trail of spit coming out the other end. With the P or Q there is not spit trail.
I have gone to the hardware store and made a necklace out of tubing. Just be careful what it is made of!My son is 26 months and we have tried numerous times to get him to take the chewy tube but he insists on his pacifier.
Sorry no success here.
We had to take the pacifier away because he was chewing the tops of. Since that time he has been sucking on tags on his blankets. Which have to be washed almost dailey because he soaks them. I take them away but he gets them when he is really having one of those days. The chewy tube is awesome, my son had been chewing everything from toothbrushes to plastic funnels to his pacifier. His OT told us to give him the chewy tube whenever he started to chew on something, then he would just go get it himself whenever he got the urge. At bedtime when he would normally chew the paci, I'd give him the chewy tube and he started choosing it over the paci, so it really worked for us.
My youngest son liked the vibrating teethers. Beyond Play has a variety of chew toys.
WIMomOf239312.8619212963Thanks we got the beyond play catalog. Now we need to go and order it. My son freaks out when we out in a vibrating tooth brush now..but it cleans his teeth better than just a normal toothbrush. Go to SuperDuper publications online. They have all sorts of speech, OT, and PT stuff including these T shaped things called chew tubes, I believe. When we visited with an OT she noticed that our son constintly had something in his mouth. We also have noticed this. She recommended a toy that is designed for children to chew on. Has anyone ever tried this?? If so does it work?? Carters Mommy39312.8555092593We used the z-vibe for a while. It's a lower frequency vibrating tool for the mouth. The ST and OT used it to wake up his oral muscles. I don't think it is something to just give the child to play with, though. There are different attachments, maybe one is good for chewing.
