IQ vs. adaptive etc. | Autism PDD

Is there anything in IDEA or elsewhere (I have looked & looked) that
discusses the issue of having a high cognitive score w/ MR range adaptive &
social-emotional skills? My friend who has two grown autistic sons said this
was the case for one of her sons & the very fact that none of his skill-sets
matched his IQ, it was obvious he needed services. At our last meeting, the
school said this is no longer the case. But, everyone (neuro, psych, etc.) we
speak to says absolutely. Wondering if there's any legal documentation or
guidelines regarding this.

Services are not based on IQ or on Adaptive scores (tho SSI eligibility is).  Services are based on tests that show whether or not a student is meeting educational standards and whether or not that student is making more than trivial progress each and every year.  If the achievement scores show not enough progress, then more intervention must be given.

A big difference between the IQ and the adaptive scores is usually an indication of possible ASD.  It's not a diagnosis, but it can be supporting evidence.  The only time IQ scores come into play when it comes to getting services (except, of course, they are necessary to get a classification of MR) is when the child is being considered for a Learning Disabled label. Until IDEA 2004, the only way to get that label was to have a big discrepency between the higher IQ score and the lower academic achievement scores.  It had nothing to do with adaptive scores.  Now, it's still possible to get an LD classification using this "severe discrepency" model, but there is also another way -- RTI, Response to Intervention. This has NOTHING to do with getting an Autism classification, though. It's for kids who need to be classified with Specific Learning Disability.

Daniel can't have a ld label he is low iq which is why the np said school is the problem for him. To get a ld label there must be a 15 point different which Daniel doesn't have. He does well in math. He was tested twice and got the same scores both times. I think this could of happened with cause I might of had thyroid issues dureing the pregnancey. I got that dx when he was 10 months old.
