I used to own the wooden German food toys.

Oooh, bet THAT's pricey!

Target actually carries some Playmobile toys, which are made in Germany.  Playmobile is also typically sold at educational toy stores, or you can go to their web site.  My kids love their camper and boat.  They also have toys for pre-school kids.

Another German toy brand Target carries is Schleich.  Target seems to primarily carry the castle toys, horses, and assorted animals.  Again, Schleich toys are also carried at educational toy stores.  Schleich does have plants elsewhere in the world, however the company is based in Germany.  According to the link in Fred's post, they should have stricter guidelines than American based companies.
