Adam was playing in his room yesterday and out of know where I heard him screaming but it was muffled. He was screaming, "Oh god...HELP ME!! PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!!" THe way his voice sounded turned my stomach and I started to panick. I heard a rustling sound and some banging but I couldnt' tell what it was or where it was comming from right away. Well I bolted up the stairs because he has NEVER yelled like this before. Just as I get to the door to his room he pops out of the toybox and he's breathing heavy and his face is all red. He said, "I was stuck...I couldnt' get out" I can't even tell you the amount of adrenaline I was pumping. He had climbed into the toybox to pretend that it was a race car apparently...He put the lid on and it actually got stuck on there and he at first wasn't able to get out. I cant' imagine a younger less strong child being able to escape. It is an old toy box because it was my 15 year old son's when he was little but it's all plastic like the little tykes ones. It's made by playskool though I believe. Anyway....Just wanted to let you all know about plastic toy boxes.. the lids apparently can get stuck on when the child is inside of it...(if they play that way) We had just gave him back one toy box because his behavior has improved and he promised not to throw toys if we did. Go figure.

My son did this as well. I heard muffled screams and found him inside a toybox (sounds like the same kind as yours) with his sister sitting on the lid. Needless to say, I took the lid off permanently and his sister was scared silly after I told her she almost hurt her brother BAD. Glad Adam was ok....I definitely understand the panic you felt.VERY SCARY! I always put toys in bins or baskets simply because of afraid of something like that happening. We do have a wooden toy box we got years ago through Pottery Barn. The lid is hinged and there are openings on the side to let air in even when it's closed.
The other thing to be wary of are cedar chests, particularly the older ones. 3 little girls died in one near my parent's home. Apparantly the lid automatically locked when closed. I have an older one in the basement that I inherited from an great aunt. Most people just remove the front lock.
Glad Adam is o.k.!
Oh wow, how scary. How scary. My son does this all the time with his toy box and it scares the crap out of me. I'm glad there's a little gap for breathing room but it still freaks me out!!A few months back Zachary was strangling in a spare car seat he had gotten caught in the straps we just got to him in time ,even typing the words turns my stomach, you cant be to careful,,Im glad he was ok.

Yea....needless to say I have put the lid in the storage closet. Whew...I have enough anxiety to deal with without crap like this happening..lol
Oh Linda..how scary...
When my oldest was a baby not even a year old...we had his crib by a window with blinds. He got the cord wrapped around his neck and he was dangling. Thank GOD we got to him in time. The very next week on Oprah they talked about how this was a danger. We had no idea at the time. I just sat there shaking the whole time I was watching. My hubby at that time cut all the blind cords down in the house and we moved his crib WAY over to the other side of the room. It was very scary for me. My daughter choking on food was bad too though...had to do the heimleck on her...rambling now.sorry. lol

How scary! The worst thing that happened here is Sarah sitting in one of those infant floaties with the built seat.really tight..my body turned for a second talking to my friend & when I looked around and she was completely upside down with her feet sticking straight up in the air still attached to floaty!
