Neuropsych appt went well | Autism PDD

Niki,
I am glad that it turned out okay and that you are feeling better about the situation.  Isn't it amazing when they do things for others that we think they can't do yet.
That is wonderful that she is going to find behaviorist.
Thanks for updating us.

Well we had our LONG appt today...overall it went pretty well...Mason became over stimulated the second we walked into the building and then the doctor and the tester came into the waiting room to get him and I knew the second I saw the tester it was going to be a problem.  Mason works the best with women.  It was a woman tester but she had a very short haircut and to Mason that means man.  He just can't work with men (I haven't figured out why yet, except that maybe because I have long hair, women with longer hair make him more comfortable??  But at the same time it's not that he can't get comfortable around men, it's that he can't function around them!?!  I don't know.)  Anyway after a struggle we finally got him into the room with the tester, and I went back to the waiting room and within 5 minutes he was back in the waiting room with me because he was already so upset that he started spitting and scratching the tester...UGH!!

So the doctor did the testing herself which he went for as long as I stayed in the room with them.  We didn't get as much of the testing done as we had hoped for, (we were getting a lot of "I can't" and frustration and she didn't want to push) but she says we definitely got a good chunk done, enough to get a good read on his progress from last year.

She did agree with the dx of autism that was given to Mason back in April.  That was a huge relief...as weird as that sounds!  I wish I could say it wasn't autism, but at least I finally have 2 doctors agreeing on something and I don't have to start all over with the second guessing.

She gave me lots of advice and recommendations and she is going to find a behavioral therapist for Mason somewhere in our area.  She is going to look herself rather than have me calling around looking for someone.  I thought that was great!

I'm looking forward to getting his test results back because as I was watching him I saw him answering questions that I never realized how much he knew!  He was just flying through some of those tests without a sweat!!  I couldn't beleive it.

So anyway, overall I was happy with the outcome today...all that worrying and stressing I have been doing over the last couple of weeks, lol.

Thanks for listening!

Glad to hear it, although sorry it was rough going at the start of the appt. I
hear ya, about having docs in agreement (we felt same way at recent neuro
appt, when he concurred w/ psych's autism dx). Very cool about the
questions he answered (kids really amaze us sometimes huh??). Let us know
what you find from the final report. Glad to hear that overall, things went well.
