It seems like all our kids start out either hypo or hyper sensetive but
some change their sensitivities as they grow older. Is there any rhyme or
reason if a kid is hyper or hypo? For example are kids with classic autism
more hypo and AS kids more hyper?
Both of my kids have always been a mixed bag. A few examples:
Hyposensitivity - Both crave deep pressure.
Hypersensitivity - With my oldest, I have to be especially careful when combing his hair. He feels everything. With my youngest, he went through a phase of plugging his ears to block out noise - vacuum cleaner, lawn mower, school gymnasium.
I think most kids are a little of both depending on the situation and the circumstances.
My son is an aspie, and he is both. He has a lot of sensory issues.
My dd is pretty much just hypersensitive.
Her brother is tactile hypo. Makes for an interesting time when they are playing.
My son is Hypo,Big time ,head butting ,jumping ,going fast, deep pressure seeking.he is AS
He seamed to be more on the hyper side when he was younger

and gets hyper.
That's when we do sensory calming therapies.
My dd is both...makes for great fun! And, some things seem to change
with time, as well. Not sure if there is ever any rhyme or reason to it.Ali is a mix. Some of her sensitivies change but there are some things she always is oversensitive to like specific noises and some things she is almost always undersensitive to that have not changed at all.T is a mix. Hypersensitive is the most obvious problem with her. She seems to get a lot of regulation by jumping and the Wilbarger brushing, however. She also enjoys swinging and climbing on the playground ... Sarah is hypo in movement and in no hurry at all..she has hyper sensitivity to noise..sometimes crowds. These things come and go depending on her mood:)My son is sensitive to loud noises such as crowds, fireworks [attending
a display in which as soon as the first one went off we were outta
there when he was just about 3 years old. Never the vacuum or
blowdryer or loud music or tv.
Only thing on his body he was sensitive about was brushing his teeth
but that's much better and done everynight and morning.
Although there is always that stalling before he actually gets up on
the stool to brush.
