An Intro to Verbal Behavior | Autism PDD

Thanks for the link.  It explains things well.  Different Roads to Learning (www.difflearn.com) has materials for VB/ABA programs , including instructional books.  Maybe one of these days I'll read Verbal Bahavior by Skinner.

Here is a great link on Verbal Behavior - its all free info

I have heard Verbal Behavior and Errorless Teaching Method mentioned here but did not have a clear idea as to what it means itll I read this

http://www.mariposaschool.org/programs/

I even ordered the SKinner book from Half.com -which is clearly for academics and not parents and I will probably resell it

Great link. Thanks. The Carbonne stuff is what the center we use is based on. The power point of their program is also very similar to the one we are doing based on the ABLLS. Data sheets and protocol sound very close to ours. I am actually surprised they put that much online--it's great.flip39308.7292708333

For those who don't know, BF Skinner is the Father of Operant Conditioning, the psychological basis for ABA.  And VB is a derivative of ABA.  These techniques are all about reinforcing positive behaviors.  Of course, it's not as simple as that, but it's a good idea to understand the basic premise of these techniques by familiarizing yourselves with the work of Skinner.  It helps give a context for what we all have to do with our kids each and every day.

The BCBA person that we got through the website you posted the link to mentioned Vincent Carbonne as well and the Skinner Book is very very hard to read - ( and I have two Masters LOL so well used to fussy prose  ) - the book was published in 1945 and is very hard

I've haven't rushed out to get it because I figured it would be very, very dry.

It is very dry. I read parts of in in grad school. I love to read authors who have summarized his work.

Our BCBA also spent some time with Carbonne.

We used VB/ABA with Sarah..our ABA therapist was trained in NY by Vincent Carbone..along with getting her undergrad in speech pathology..we were very lucky..

Sarah always had hard time with new programs and this errorless teaching method kept her going with feeling successful without shutting down which was how she coped with stress usually..since all teachings and programs were geared towards getting language out of her it is perfect for nonverbal or preverbal kids..I just called it ABA and didnt realize that their was a difference till I got other therapists who never done it.

I dont remember using a particular book for verbal behavior..we used so many including RDI books for our programs...I just remember they made it totally errorless in teaching her anything and slowly built up demands..we didnt do the "so many seconds to make a decision"  before they corrected her..she was allowed longer to process the skill and then got her to do it more natural & faster like her peers later on. It was very rewarding for her:)
