eccentric?? | Autism PDD

My own mother gave a card for our anniversary, about how amazing it was that the two of us managed to find each other.  I mean okay, it WAS a commercial card.

Our courtship was peculiar.  The first time DH called me to ask me out we were on the phone for FIVE HOURS.  And that conversation included the words, "Cats?  You like cats?  I LOVE cats."  Sheesh.

We spent much of that summer together, collecting books and studying them, on MUSHROOM IDENTIFICATION.   Talk about romantic ... our very own, exclusive "special interest."

"Artistic temperament", "bohemian", "free spirit", "old soul"...these are usually the words used to describe me, so if that all adds up to eccentric, I'm in!

How many of you are eccentric or have been told that you are??

How many of you has a spouse that is?

I have been told that I am and I notice that a lot of other people that I have met that have children on the spectrum are this way too.

Just curious,

Karrie

I have been called too sensitive and dingy..sometimes "Mary Poppins" by my sisters:P I worry way too much about everything and everbody:) DH thinks I am totally neurotic and impulsive~but that's only compared to him:P He is very rigid and hates change:)  eccentric??

Does dyeing all your lamp shades and photo mats in razzberry koolaide so that they all match count??

Karrie

Eccentric--that definitely describes my husband!

Dh & I both for sure!! We always laugh that we can't wait until we have
enough money to be called "eccentric" instead of weird, odd, et al!! LMBO!!
We are very different to say the least--I'm an artist and a bit of a free-spirit,
also been called an "old soul" & "hippy born way too late." My dh has some
odd interests, defenitely a (proud) geek! Lately, he is REALLY into robots.
LOL! Both dh & I will get REALLY into something, way off the beaten path,
and we have some very interesting conversations!!!

So, YES, we are strange...but working & saving as much as we can to get to
"eccentric!"

I'm a big wierdo! always have been, always will be. Less odd and more
creative, strange sense of humor, often speak before thinking, question
humanity daily...you get the picture.   As I get older,
people seem to gravitate toward my more authenic and goofy self, than to
that person who thought she had to try harder to fit in.

BE FREE! We freaks have to stand together!

I think I qualify as eccentric.  Nobody has specifically called me that word to my face.  LOL  But some other phrases have been used.  I'm loud, can get carried away and be socially unaware at times and end up sticking my foot not just in my mouth but halfway down my throat

Dh is dx'd Aspie and I wouldn't have thought of him as being "weird". But after 14 y of marriage---there is "something" about him that is just different. I think he was weird in school----tall, skinny, black-rimmed glasses, computer geek. Got beat up all the time.

I'm not sure how i'd be described, however within 5-10 minutes, people often say to me, "you're an only child right?"I wouldn't say either of us are eccentric, but we are both definitely homebodies.  I am more social than my husband, but I do really prefer having  only a couple friends.

I am social to a point around people I know I am the center of attention, but I tend to be quieter around strangers.I am quick to trust tho usually have a pretty good sense about people. I am the person who stops in the middle of the highway to move a turtle so it wont get hit or help an older lady with her bags. My hubby is an artist. He was in band in high school...We both are free spirits and hippies at heart.  We dont conform to how 'society' thinks we should act. So if that makes us eccentric, so be it....

FREAKS UNITE!!!

Mary
