YAY!!! I am also starting school in 2 weeks to get a degree in Early Childhood Ed. I would love to become certified or trained in ABA or to work with special needs children. I absolutely love seeing the results of the hard work when it pays off for these kids!! I am soooo nervous about going to school full time and raising four kids, being the Girl Scout leader, and all of the other millions of things my day involves!!!! Wish me luck. I have stayed home for 4 yrs now and it is time for the little one to go to preschool and FINALLY I can get some relief for myself and do something for me!!!! That will also benefit my son and his special needs.

For ME!

I got my books yesterday. I am getting my ECE (early Childhhod Education) and then I will specialize in ABA. I am very excited. This will help  Owen so much, and if I work in the private sector for a while, I can arrange my schedule around him, and are next child.

We just got back from an ABA parent training provided by the govt while we sit on the waitlist. I am starting Owens therapy myself now, as we can no longer afford to pay for it.

While there the Women giving the training (the head honcho of it all) told us that even if the govt gave them 1 million dollars, should couldn't run around taking on more kids..in Canada, there is no school that offers ABA as a masters or PHd level. They just had to go and hire 2 women I from the US and one from New Zealand. It isn't easy to convince people to move. You need people with this kind of education to be supervisors, or directors.

This year is the first year, 2 colleges are offering a 1 year certificate in ABA therapy training..until now, people were just trained by someone else..no realy certification. So that is what I will be taking!! I am so excited.

I also found out that there is no regulatory board, or college to make private ABA companies accountable, or any real set standards..I think that is terrible, (an we got screwed over) the government has there standards, which are quite high and amazing. When and if Owen ever gets off that waitlist for ABA, it sounds like an amazing program.

anyways, just wanted to share my exciting news! I can take a lot of the course online, so I start this semster with intro to psych, and Child Development I..Then when DH is home for good in NOvemeber, I can handle a larger course load..should only take me 3 years part time :)

Congrats!!  That is fantastic!!  I'm so happy for you.  I've just started to think about doing the same kind of thing.  I can't wait to hear how it goes.
