dx x2 | Autism PDD

Now my son has 2 dr's agreeing that he has PDD-NOS.

What a long journey this has been.  First (like many), he was dx with ADHD.  Then with further testing and evaluation we moved to SPD.  Upon further treatment and appointments the psychiatrist gave him the PDD-NOS dx.  Then we went to a geneticist.  They did alot of testing and came to the same conclusion of PDD-NOS.

He has been getting OT through school and privately since about February and has made alot of improvements.  Now we are on to a neuropsych to help with behavior and social skills.  The psychologist we have been going to (that dx him with ADHD) still only sees him as ADHD.  Although he has helped, just not enough.

This coming year will be interesting.  Last year was hell!  He was in 3 different schools in 1 year!  He started at a private school, they were compassionate but did not know how to help him.  Then he went to the neighborhood school to get him in the system to recieve services.  They had no compassion or undertanding of his needs whatsoever- well, he is smart so he should know better!

He has his own plan.  At registration, he was telling his teacher's husband (who also teaches at the same school), "yep, this is my last year here, next year for 3rd grade I am going back to St. Charles (the private school)"

Oh yeah, not to mention, before things really started getting really bad with school, my husband decided he wanted to move 4 states away.  Long story short, he is soon to be my ex.  So I have dealt with all of this on my own and also having a 2 yer old dd!  Not to mention that we always disagreed about what was going on with our son, he always thought I was just babying him.  Nope.  I just understand him! (my son that is!)  So, he finally came along to a dr's appt (the geneticist) and she explained everything to him.  Geeze, now he finally gets it.  Sorry now it is 330am and I am starting to ramble.  Just wanted to share our story.

Thanks for sharing! I'm so sorry this has been such a hard road for you, but it certainly sounds like you have done all the right things and have your son on the right track. Blessings!
