I would call the stuffed animal aversion "tactile defensiveness." Fur gives a light, feathery touch which many autistic kids HATE. Many do better with firm touch than light touch when being touched by other people, too.
Could be the texture of the fake fur is unpleasant to him - my autistic 9-year-old Robby has many texture issues, as does my S.I.D. & AD/HD 9-year-old Evan.
Robby will not eat anything sqishy, like applesauce or Jello, and he won't wear cheap t-shirts, or will suddenly reject a certain item of clothing for no reason I can see (but I'm not autistic, so what do I know?)
Both my kids will rub their hands together, or on their clothes when they touch certain things. Evan will gag sometimes if he touches something he can't tolerate.
Both my kids are also sound sensitive. They freak out at the vacuum, or any similar sound. I bought them those hearing protector earmuff things from the Sporting Goods store - they wear them frequently. Maybe you can find him some toys similar to the cloth horse. I bought 3 of Robby's favorite Big Bird doll when it got lost just before we left on vacation one year. We pulled off the freeway every time we saw a Toys R Us to look for more!
My son has this fear of stuffed animals, like the mama bear. He'll scream push it away, run away or attack it. I was wondering could it be the type of fake fur on it or the noise? He does this with most stuffed animals. Except his fur free horse? Which is made of cloth? ?
