I wouldn't use ADHD meds unless there is a threat of failure at gradeschool level. I agree with other posters here that it sounds like SPD. Is he in OT? These are things that the OT can help him and you with if they are trained in Sensory. Adam looks very much ADHD in public places at times depending on the environment and his individual sensory sensitivities.

HI
NOT ALL ADHD KIDS NEED MEDICATION EITHER
AND NOBODY CAN TELL YOU HOW THEY WILL WORK BECAUSE EACH CHILD IS DIFFERANT.
THEY COULD MAKE HIM GO WORSE RATHER THAN BETTER.
GO SEE YOUR G.P TELL HIMT HE PROBLEMS AND SEE IF HE CAN RECOMMEND ANYTHING.

What if he HAS ADHD, doesn't he need to be on meds if that's the case?
I do not know if he can understand social stories, although his receptive language is improving rapidly, he only understands very basic, simple stories, no abstract concepts yet. Still I will look for some simple ones.
We are waiting for his sensory eval results, then we will start OT. Also looking into ABA. That should make some difference hopefully?
Thanks for your response Shell. :)

My son seems to be going through a regression. He refuses to let me go at kindie (preshool) and I have to stay with him the whole time. He is screaming a lot during tantrums and even without any apparant reason. Is that an oral stim? He has never had any, but mostly he is impossible to take outside.
Everytime we go to a doctor's appointment, and there have been quite a few lately, he absolutely refuses to sit down. He likes to hoard all the toys. He wants to have the exact thing some other child has picked. He runs to everyone repeating 'are you okay?" endlessly. He touches everything. He is like a tornedo hitting the room, same at the shopping center or anywhere else. When we try to make him sit or not touch something, he starts throwing the biggest tantrums, falling to the floor, screaming. These end as soon as we back away and he gets up and starts plaving havoc with everything again. I am not calling them meltdowns as he hasn't had any before but they certainly don't look temper tantrums to me either. He is genuinely distressed, unable to sit and not move. Our fmaily doctor suggested that if he is this hyperactive outside, he needs to be on medication and since he can't prescribe it, the dev paed can.
He has always had the most difficulty in social situations. (not for the want to socialize, he loves it, he just doesn't have any social skills, plus he is hyperactive as well). This thingis just escalated recently. We haven't even started any therapies with him as yet and personally because he is so young, hardly 4, we try to try some behavioural interventions first before we try any meds. However it is becoming increasingly difficult to take him outside. It feels like my husband and I are living separate lives because one goes out and one stays home with him unless absolutely necessary to take him like for medical appointments. DOn't get me wrong, he is not stuck home all day, he does go to preshool twice a week where I now stay with him the whole time, EI where his dad stays, ST where I stay again, his dad takes him to the park and I take him for walks.
The situation is becoming out of hand. We do not know what to do. At this point his dev paed does not think that he has ADHD but we will go for a review again soon. Till then any suggestions so I keep my sanity?

No... no meds. Perhaps he knows, (vaccinations) he never felt good at/after the doctors. And at school he might feel overwhellmed or left out socially. You said SID, right? Let me tell it's the environment around him, it's a lot for him to take in! My daughter, son and cousin both have it. Picture your sense x 100 stronger or the complete oppsite. My daughter has it in almost in all areas! Meds will NOT work. If you give a child ADHD meds and they don't have it. They act like there on SPEED! Just warning you...
Everyone has their "threshold" at a certain point where you say "let's do meds". But I think most people will 110% try to find that other way first. Or--many, many other ways.
Our decision to start meds was based on family and school safety. My son was horribly aggressive and violent. He would really injure us and anyone is his way. He is on risperdal for that. For his impulsiveness----Strattera. That decision was based on "his" safety. He would jump out of the van(to say hi) when he would see our neighbor walking down the rode into town. Or---without warning--jump out when he forgot something in his classroom at school---after I have pulled away from the curb! Door locks aren't 100% effective! And they aren't childproof at all!!!
