REALLY need some help and perspective | Autism PDD

**bump**My DH has an opportunity for us to relocate. It would be going from CA to WA state. It's a promotion, good career move, more $$, etc. We love our little community we're in now, and have family close by. We however are TIRED of the craziness that southern california provides, the traffic, the smog, etc. We just think that WA would provide a better quality of life.

As for our kids:
We have 2 1/2 year old twins. DD is attending an ASD school that is PECS based, 20hours per week, etc. She's been there a few months and the change in her is shocking.

DS was just diagnosed as PDD-NOS last week but borderline. He is already on a speech/OT contract thru EI and was just approved for ABA 3 hours a week. We tried to get him in DD's school but EI said no way. He is having MAJOR behavioral issues that are very stressful for us!

I've been doing a LOT of research on WA and even spoke to EI up there. Sounds like they have a program that is VERY comprable to what DD is in now. I also like it that they have an in-between program that would be good for DS. When they turn 3 it sounds like services are identical in either place.

So what would you do? ANything else we are forgetting to consider?

thanks for reading all of this!

We moved from Washington State a year-and-a-half ago, and there are good programs in some areas, but there are also lots of not good programs. Washington was on the recent lists of states that need intensive intervention in its special education programs. You can find that document by searching how does your state rate in this forum.

That being said, I have heard that the Mercer Island School District is the best in the Seattle area for Autism. I would guess that anywhere in the Seattle area as opposed to the eastern half of the state would provide at least decent services.

what an awesome opportunity - I pray you have the wisdom to make the right decision. I might add that moving while the children are young IS SO MUCH EASIER than any other time!
