Does anyone know anything about the new Florida Autism School of Excellence
"FACE" school in Florida. It's being RUN by the ESA?
The best people to contact for info on schools are CARD. I used to think so. Until some of the people that worked at CARD went to work for the county. It was the cruelest meeting I have ever been to. How quickly the tables turned. So much so that it resulted in 13 state complaints and I had to hire an attorney. I don't think to highly of CARD right now.I haven't heard of that school. I've heard there was some Autism college. I know a lot of these special schools aren't always good.

Where in Florida is this school? THere is a FACE school here in Tampa, I think it just opened this year. Short of teachers doesn't shock me. The boys are going to a regular preschool here in Tampa, Nikolas is in an ASD classroom. I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!! I would not take him out of there for anything. Last year he went to a EELP class in another school and it was a disaster, her first year teaching, no training with autism, too many kids and room to small. Nikolas had so many behavioral problems, everyone gave up on him. He is a totally different kid. Andrew is attending EELP, but in this same school with Nikolas. Again, totally different kid, hugs his aide every morning, talks about school, can't wait to go in the mornings. Talking to Nikolas' teacher, she said that all the autism classes use to be in one school downtown, but they decided to move them out to where the kids are, so she landed in south tampa. If you are actually in Tampa I would really recommend an ASD classroom. Nikolas is still in preschool but the class right next door is an ASD class for older kids and I'm pretty impressed with it too. I know Florida is nortorious for bad services, but I think we got pretty lucky.my son actually attended for whole days and we are back to home schooling.
I was hoping this would be perfect for him. They made it sound so perfect and had said they were willing to work around his private speech and occupational therapy schedule. Come to find out, they started the year, short teachers and aids, and they couldn't work around my sons private therapy schedule because it would interfere with funding.
they say lots of families are moving to the area for the school. I hope it works better for them than for us.
!Warning! The Broach school in Duval County is horrible!!! Do not send your child there. I had to file a formal complaint about two years ago because the teachers were NOT trained to handle children with disabilities and they were verbally abusive!Don't send your kid to a Asd school in Tyler,Tx. they can't handle some asd kids.1 parent there filed a complaint with the courts and 1 the lawsuit. Not all se schools are great.ESA also own Broach along with the Florida Autism school!
interesting !
