My older son is 7 and we are going to a psych who specializes in Aspergers. Good luck and please post how the meeting went.

Yeah and I think you, too, could be RIGHT!
Let us know how it goes ... I am sure any way you cut it she is doing GREAT!
I'll throw in a in the label will be removed completely pool. Good luck Shelly and Sarah.Jacob is 7.5y and he only sees our psychologist and psychiatrist. So he is dx'd thru our psychiatrist.
I would think that if she wasn't appearing to be mild or moderate anymore---I think she may get PDD-NOS or Aspergers maybe. Does she seem aspie?
Sarah is going on monday to the developmental pediatrican that initially diagnosed her over 3 years ago with "mild to moderate autism."
The school evaluated her last year and gave her a provisional label of autism with savant abilities.. Her reg. pediatrician said she would no longer qualify for autism label but she's just a medical doctor. ;~P
Just wondering what kind of evaluation to expect for a seven year old from a developmental pediatrician?
Thanks in advance! What our dev ped did on our ds' subsequent appointment was to refine his
diagnosis...tease out what might be personality and what my be attributable
to his diagnosis. He looked at specific qualities of his diagnosis to allow us
to better understand what learning/behavioral techniques would help our ds
the best.
Hope this helps...
I speak way to highly of her folks:) I still see issues but not behavioral ones at all..it is more her language quirks..
ex. Sarah can you do the hulu hoop?
Sarah: Well...actually I certainly can..let me show you!
Sarah talking to boy going down pole on monkey bars:
"WOW! your only SIX YEARS OLD and YOU can go down the pole ALL by YOURSELF!!!..your a BIG BOY!! THAT IS SO AMAZING!!! I just cant believe you can go down pole..MAMA!!! he can go down pole all by himself and he is only 6 years old.....WOW! That is SO AMAZING!!! Your only 6 years old...ect...
(now repeat above a few times really loud... and then you see what I see:)
I am seeing the by products of too much praise from ABA for so many years:P
I sure wish I had a dig. video camcorder to show you .it is more noticeable to me and surely you guys too since we know so much but the kids seem to love her praise and clapping for them. She still can be quiet some days....I am feeling an asperger's label for her but not sure...
The biggest deal is her social skills around peers..she rather be on the outside looking in still. I have no clue when that will change:)
If she lost the label completely according to this developmental pediatrican then I am going to have to write a book and on go on 60 minutes or something to shout to the world what early intervention can do for our kids:)
Make a million dollars and buy a house near the ocean..oh well..I can dream!
Seriously, you should write a book. It will be so inspirational to anyone
I've never met Sarah, but from what I've read in your posts she strikes me as high functioning AS. I know the glitch is the fact that she had a language delay. However, the autism specialist/consultant for our school district told me that criterion is being reconsidered. I'm really interrested in what Sarah's developemental pediatrician will determine. As well as she's doing, I wouldn't be surprised if the label is lifted.
Good luck to you and Sarah!
With her social development still behind, I would be surprised if she was

Remember, she did the work and you raised her. I'm sure the therapy helped, but I'm also confident that she would have made good progress regardless. She's a smart cookie and you're a good mom.
And I don't think you'd make a million bucks with yet another cured child book, sadly :( I would read it if you wrote it, though :)
Doubt I would write a book but would love parents to know that a child that was profoundly affected can overcome all or most of their sx through early intervention..
I would never call her "cured"..ever.
I would say she overcame the hardships of autism and learned skills to thrive and learn in spite of it but her brain will always be autistic..
I dont think a cure is possible~unless of course a child was misdiagnosed in the first place....
I am like most here on board..I never have seen a cured person with autism personally and surely not in my child. I like the word recovered and would read a book about that anyday than a book stating "cured" way too subjective:)
The last time he saw her she had no eye contact & refused to engage him or us at all..he couldnt get her to respond to her name or what he was pointing to..she had no words..no facial expressions..I am real excited for him to see her again now:)
