GASTROINTEROLOGIST appt..its time | Autism PDD

I may be wrong but I thought it was common for Autistic children to have GI problems.  Am I mistaken?

As far as "potty training" goes, I know it's been extremely difficult for us as well.  Riley will be 9 in 2 months, and still has accidents quite often..."enuresis"  but we're going to a neuro to check that out.  I honestly think it's sensory related and he can't "feel" it, as a lot of times he doesn't even realize until someone points it out to him.  We just have a timer that goes off every hour for him to go to the bathroom.

Good luck at the GI though, make sure it's a pedi GI!!!  We've been through a million tests ourselves...I wish you the best of luck and hopefully some answers!!!
~LesleyTHANKS ALL, FOR YOUR SUPPORT at least Im not alone..but yes I read before autistic kids have GI/poopy probs. God I wish ID WAKE UP ONE DAY AND THE AUTISM IS GONE way gone but nope after watchin him past few days w/NT kids in neighborhood ITS SO THERE I should video it so DAM school can see there is a prob.when they think hes not autistic n he should b mainstreamed ok lets kil my kids self esteem shove normal kids down his throat AGAIN..b/c kids are mean and if they smell ..theres always the biggest MOUTH IN THE CLASS TO SCREAM IT..

I think it's wonderful that he is trying that is so sweet and wanting to please you

I can't get Takoda to even try at 4 1/2. He used to sit and beg to get up now he screams and cries the whole time. He has also regressed to a point were he has fits if I try to put him in underwear.

Please let us know what the Dr. finds.

jack is 6 and a half and nowhere near potty trained i would also be intrested to hear your findings since jack has had bowel problems since birth i never connected it to his ASD before so this has been a eye opener for me.We tried putting regular underwear over his nappy in the hope that he would get the message that it was underpants that went under his trousers but no he just likes to pick them out on a morning when i asked him if wanted to go without the nappy and just wear "big boy pants" he got really distressed so i didn't push it.I am also working on the theory that jack doesn't have proper feeling in his bowels i know it is a little crude but he has never ever giving any indication when he is having a b/m you know usually you can tell when a child his dirtying there nappy jack has never done that it is on the list of things to look at along with dysphaxia once we get some kind of seziure control plus we asked for a break from tests. So yes i will be very intrested to hear what the doc has to say

i read in  my book 1st step is to get them in the bathroom to go poop even if it is in the pants. next step is to get them to sit on the potty in their underwear and poop. and the 3rd step is to get the underwear off. we are still at step 1. and has been a long process.hey Cyndie9404,Carlo has a Gi app. this friday. Were having lots of trouble with his bowels. He won't go for a couple of days, then boom he goes like 6-7 times in one day and there not formed there always loose. so we'll see what they say on friday. i'll keep you posted if it will help with christian? take care mom2carlo

cyndie9404,

my son 3.5 has been pee trained for about 6 months this bm problem has not killing me. he will no go in the potty. we also have a gi appointment in sept earlies they could see him. he use to see her when he was a baby/toddler for reflux and protein sensitivity. he has never since birth had a normal bm always loose. after reading i have learned that this could be a part of autism cuz they have gi problems. i have also been told it could be a sensory thing also we are going to see a ot about this cuz he has major sensory problems. hope this helps. let us know what the gi doc says.
