As many as it takes.
It is best to start the process early. All my kid's service providers believe that young brains accept training easier/better.
It might help to know what state you are in, some of the pre-3year services depend on what state you are in. In CA there are regional centers charged with services from birth to age 3, which I do not think other states have.
Hi, everyone I got a hold of child find for my 2 yr old to get him checked for delays, sensory and types autism. The guy from child find on the phone said my son sounds like he has autism (I'm think pdd or asbergers ). Anyways, he told me different people would call me the next day. It was been 3 days no call. How many times a days should I call him?
They have service from birth to 3 years, Then state does pre school 3 and up. We're in CO.
You can keep calling, but you need to put it in writing too. You need to write a formal letter requesting an evaluation. Once your request is in writing, the clock starts ticking and they have so many days to respond (I don't recall the specific time period.) If you don't already have it, get a copy of the book "From Emotions to Advocacy." It's the special education bible and explains all of your rights.
Back then the woman that helped us recommended getting the evaluations through our medical insurance, in order to speed up the process. You are going to need an evaluation from a speech therapist, phychologist, occupational therapist, and I think a physical therapist. If you wait for the school board it could take forever. Our wait was only a couple of months. They need to see the diagnosis in order to place him in the pre-k program.
