Anyone have Supernanny Autism Video? | Autism PDD

He reminded me a lot of Nikolas too when Nikolas was much younger. That is similiar to how we got the boys to talk, they had to verbalize what they wanted instead of just pointing or me anticipating their every want and need. It did work for us. I was kind of wondering where is therapy was too.

Thank You for the link to the show.  I actually liked it.

do the videos have audio? i get no audio on them You didn't miss much. Liz

It's apparently on blinx.com, no longer shows up on youtube.  There are five parts, each about 7 minutes long.  Here's the link:

Thanks NorwayMom...I'm at work, so I can't watch it right now.

Can't wait to do so when I get home. ~ Thanks again

ditto :)

If anyone recorded the Supernanny episode where she helped the family with the son with Autism, is there any possible way you could copy it for me?   I would be glad to pay for the favor.
I would love to see Lynn Koegel working with the boy.

Thanks so much!  Oh man, I cant believe I missed that Supernanny! I wonder if there is any way you could get it online? Maybe from ABC or CBS or whatever station it played on? If you do, please post where you got it, I would love to watch it :)

I've usually enjoyed the Supernanny whenever I've seen it, but I was really annoyed by this episode.  They basicly made it look like all you needed to do was engage your child and VOILA, all would be good.  They made it seem like it was all so easy.  As Tzoya indicated - BS!

I wouldn't feel bad about missing this episode, and I wouldn't try too hard to track it down.

Norway Mom, Thanks so much for tracking that down!!

Yes, I'm aware of the limitations of the show.  But truly, Lynn Koegel supposedly only worked with the boy for a relatively short time.  Here is an interview with her about the show  (it's at the bottom) http://www.geocities.com/AutismPages/other/prt.htm

But the reason I want to see it is that Lynn Koegel's method (Pivotal Response Training) is the main method I'd like to use for my son.  I've read the books and manuals, but I really need to see it in practice.  I can't find a soul in Houston who knows anything about it and can teach me or work with my son.

I watched the episode.  I know someone worked with the little guy, but it seemed the parents really ignored the child.  They would get the sisters to watch him outside and at dinner he was rarely included in conversation ( no attempt was made).  I am sure that the episode was edited to make it seem the parents were at fault.

I do know the Super Nanny provides consistence - which is very important with children on the spectrum.  AND easier said than done.

thanks, I wanted to see that too!I saw it twice and it was a disappointment.  I think the way it was edited (in order to fit into the limited time on the air), it looked like the parents were dopes for not getting some interventon and parent training and all it took was a quick visit from an autism expert to put everyone, parents and kid, on the right track.  BS!!! No child has THAT dramatic a turnaround in that short a time.  I love Supernanny but I personally think this video did a disservice to us and our kids. It made the result from intervention look easy and quick.  We ALL know there is nothing further from the truth than that. That episode changed my whole life.    My son was having "speech delays" but I knew something more was wrong.   I was watching that SuperNanny episode and that that little boy had so many characteristics of my son.   It was like watching my son on TV.   Right then and there, something inside of me clicked, the next day I called our pediatrician for a referral to a Dev Ped in Chicago and 3 months later he was diagnosed with Autism.

What they did was teach him to say"yum" when he ate food. To come when he was called and to request swing when he was on the swing. They also showed the parents how to do a schedule and put some routine in his life. What annoyed me was it seemed that the parents were expected to teach their son (very important) but where was the ongoing intervintion for this child.

Teaching yum was done by withholding the food till he said the word("more" would have been useful not "yum") Teaching him to anwer his name was done with the help of siblings leading him to the parent when his name was called and then rewarding him. I wish that was all it took to make living with autism easy. I'd love to see them tackle my 2 kids! Liz

That little boy was soooooooooo cute!  I don't normally like Supernanny, but had to watch that one.  Not too impressed by their treatments, but enjoyed seeing SOMEONE on a popular TV show other than a news story dealing with autism.  Finally.
