So we have started ABA, and since it is Sunday and we have no thereapy on Sunday, I said let me try it with him (there was nothing good on tv
Oh yes - I can totally see that happening with R - one of thereasons why i have not done any ABa type things with him and have concentrated on looking for therapists
AT the same time so many of the moms and Dads have resported success -on doing ABA with their kids
Sarah refused to do for me like her therapists..over time you find yourself doing ABA with them and not even realize it.. it just becomes second nature. I still use it and have a whole different way that I talk to her and engage her than I did my oldest nt dd..it is a hard habit to break even when they dont need it anymore:)
They can be very stubborn to change and have a high resistance to learn new skills so you need your very own special reinforcers only from you so that he will want to comply easier for you:) Get a treasure box and fill it with store toys, treats and items he loves~ours has a lock on it:) Rotate goodies often:)
When he complies reward him heavily with verbal praise, claps and a reward from treasure box:)
Over time fade out the treasure box and use just verbal praise..but hold onto box for harder programs:) Best of luck!
I' m with with Shelly. I have watched so much of it that it is second nature. II hear you. Non compliance is the biggest issue for us too. Looking into ABA.
