We are back to no TV on school nights.
We talk about how many days left till starting school. The sumemr camp is having an end of summer party today. She has her backback from Daddy. That's about it. She is saving her favorite shirt to wear the first day!
We start Aug 20...I usually start about 2 weeks prior with him helping me get his supplies and uniforms. Then a week before we start doing the "school bedtime routine" which isn't so different from summer camp... School here starts on the 15th of August. I've gotten the uniforms already, but I have no clue as to what supplies to get. I remember alot of coloring in kindergarten, but I'm not getting him any because they would just end up being his lunch for the first day of school. To prepare him, I'm going to start on Monday getting him dressed for school each morning. I'm going to pack his lunch in his lunch bag and work with him on opening the containers. I'm also going to practice walking out to the bus stop because he is a runner and my worst fear is seeing him hurt becasue of it.We still have a month left but my ds will go to a new school with all new
Am going to use last year's yearbook to point out the 1st grade teacher, but should I NOT show him the special ed teacher I THINK he will have? I have a 50-50 shot of being right.
I made him a two week visual schedule with photos and icons for our various activities, and we have talked about school. Will do a drive-by this afternoon on our way to the movies. Will get him to lay out his khakis and white polo this afternoon, but won't talk about ANY of this tonight...or maybe just lightly. Don't want anxiety to wreck his sleep.
We swam for 2 hours or so this morning, right now they're watching a favorite Harry Potter movie. Go to movies and out to dinner at his favorite spot. Am I overloading? Have tried to keep him very busy every other day.
It is soooo early for school! Waaa!
T was up at 4 AM again, last night ... I think it is anxiety about going back. Seh turns on her bedroom light and PLAYS.Cole was up yesterday at 4am, too. They were tired out from an afternoon at Chuck E Cheese (aka Hell), and Jack passed out in the car around 5. We could not get him to wake up, so of course at 9, he kept bouncing around in the bed (we have them sleeping together). My husband had to repeatedly read Jack the riot act.
I think this storminess at bed time did it.
Or maybe it IS school worry? I've touched on it and shown him the calendar daily, but that's it.
What are you doing this week to prep?
Daniel has warm baths nightly after dinner with all his stuff ready before bed time. This makes our mornings go easier amd less chaos also.We pretty much have stayed with 9-10 bed times all summer since dad has to work the next day.I have to adjust bedtime. They've been allowed to stay up until 8:30 during the summer so I'm going to start bumping it to 8:00 next week and probably 7:30 the week after that. I'll try it in 5 minute increments each night so it doesn't seem like such a big deal.
Otherwise, Anthony transitions well so I don't expect any problems. He'll be going to 2 schools this year. We're keeping him enrolled in the public pre-school where he receives speech therapy and he'll also attend a typical pre-school 3 mornings a week where his big bro is going into 3rd grade. He's excited about going to the same school as Frankie but with (as he says) kids his size!
Cole starts back to school on Friday, August 10. Insanely early. Any body have things they do to prep their kids for a new school year?
I have a two week visual calendar I built in Powerpoint with homemade icons for our local pool, a photo of the Walmart sign, photo of our aquarium's giant shark tank, logo from the children's museum, photo of school bus, etc. Going to see the new Harry Potter show, so will get that off google images.
We went to Walmart with the vague plan of getting school supplies, thinking that would help. He wandered off 3 times (grrrrrrrrrr) so I got basic groceries and bailed out. He never does this!
Well, Cole's first day was today. And par for the course, his little brother fell out of bed at 2am and woke Cole. He got up and came downstairs while Jack hollered & passed back out. Cole didn't go back to sleep until 5:30!
Despite it all, he did well separating and they used my two-week visual calendar and the accompanying photos to get him to interface. He couldn't remember the teacher's name and called her Miss Mommy all day. She melted of course - she's a snuggler, her self.
He is in a Reduced Numbers Class with 5 other boys, all on the spectrum and all in third grade. Cole is in first grade, but the younger RNC class has 4 basically nonverbal kids in it and one screeches, another is self injurious. So I stuck him with the big kids - they are more verbal and social, so we'll see! Really like the teacher!
Cole also will do 2hours & 20 minutes of first grade inclusion, plus lunch & two recessess inclusion. Total time with NT kids will be about 3 1/2 hours daily...some variance.
Does this sound like too much?
Gotta go chug more coffee. Had a work session at the book store after we moms dropped off the boys (we're doing that sensory yard I've spoken of) and we ponied up to the coffee bar first. A group came in after us and asked if somebody had a black Explorer. I said - I have a black Expedition. Could that be it? She said I'd left my car door wide open! They all howled because I'd just ordered at triple shot latte!
Gnite!
FOur hours sleep ain't cutting it!
I HATED it being so early! I moved here one sumemrtime, from Chicago and we started like, Sept. 15.
I hung out like, all summer, and by the time we decided to go register me, all the classes were full! And your back-to-school clothes are SUMMER ones, here. Yuck, it still seems weird to me, 35 years later!
T's school starts Aug 15th. And just to make sure we parents knew what we were doing, we got a letter today about back-to-school night the 14th -- you get teacher assignment and take in the supplies to put in the desk, etc. So I feel like I ahve my act together ... for now. Dunno WHAT we are going to do if she does not get the teacher she (very obstinately) wants!
Tx. now starts Aug. 27 or After labor day new law here. We use to start early Aug. I will try and hs this year for Daniel. I wish all kids have uniforms to school. Only elementry get's a list here before school starts. We are a k thru 12 at 1 school campus. Have all things ready before bed time. We even have shower's then also. Ask in Ard's for teachers you think will be good for your child . I did this once and Daniel got the 1 we wanted that year. Here 6th is elemenetry .
Daniel attended Se all day last year and made great improvement in that room cause of the 8 to 4 ratio. He used Lexia program which helped rize his reading scores. He met all his goals by dec and at the ard in jan. we left him in this class and moved the goals up. Best year he ever had yet!We start school the 20th. Tomorrow we will go visit the school, that is the only real preperation I am making. I am expecting the 20th to be a tough day.
