Nice, understanding teacher....already making friends.... sounds like a very promising start to Kindergarten! Way to go Adam!
We went to meet his new teacher and see his classroom and he did really well.
It is a regular ed kindergarden class and he will not have an IEP this year. I did talk to his teacher on the phone and told her he has a diagnosis and asked if she will keep an eye out for me as far as him needing anything..just in case. She is sooo nice and said she certainly would watch him close. I'm nervous.
We got there and it was crowded with all the children plus all the parents. He was covering his ears a bit...grimicing...posturing and when one little girl came up to him to try and talk he purposfully turned away from her like he was hiding so as not to have to socialize. It looked pretty bad at first. Then he said to me.."I don't know who to play with" And I said.."You can play with anyone you want" Then he said.."I don't know how"
HE DID IT!!!
I am still worried of course because he will not have any special help like he used to but I am also excited for him and all that he has accomplished so far.
It's weird because He has been in school already for 2 years because of pre-K...but this somehow seems different...especially because he has no IEP. I'm feeling excited, yet lost or something. Anyone know what I mean?

WOW! YAY Adam!!!! THAT is wonderful -- especially in such a novel and anxious situation!!!
I do know the feeling -- T had no support starting Kg -- before diagnosis. I knew then that she needed help for SOMETHING, I just did not know what.
Yes, I know the feeling of being excited yet somehow lost. They believe Anthony will fully mainstream for kindergarten (he has another year of pre-school). His educators are fully confident that he'll mainstream and while that sound so good I feel like he'll be walking a tight rope without a net.Services are nice but the teacher makes all the difference in the world. I hope you are able to get back and forth communication better than I last year:) I think if he is already able to play with kids he will do excellent..Sarah never did the whole year..just content doing her own thing. Best of luck:) wow, hes pretty young, i cant beleive a kid that young would step up and start socalizing i sure was not about that at that age, bet hell do fine, no assistance eather?? Thats great, hes already doin better then i did then.Thank you all for your responses and encouraging words. They mean so much to me.
