Some of the ones( example the first one ) you mentioned tash are not that farfethced to me - Mutations are a part and parcel of evolution and that Autism would be a by-product of an evolutioanlry process doesnt sound crazy to me

( though that all humans will be autistic soon does sound far-fetched)

I have people calling me in a panic over that one.....

I think the "worst" theories are the ones that appear to be plausible so many peopel BELIEVE them.

Refrigerator Moms is a good one. "Having NO theory of mind," is another ... 90% are MR is another REAL winner!

Micki's MIL sounds like a TERRIFIC amateur shrink, too My MIL offered me a new twist on the refrigiator mom theory: she told me
my ds "is like that because you are too overly affectionate with him".
Hmmm- I could say a lot about that but it might not be fit to print.

Some of those aren't so farfetched, actually. I am extremely sensitive to mold and find that it causes severe, violent mood swings and fear reactions and worsens my fatigue depending on the type. If the yeast overgrowth theory is true, mold could definitely play a part in making autistic symptoms worse, as it stimulates yeast growth. I don't believe it to be the CAUSE of autism, but I've definitely heard of dumber theories.

My choice for worst theory:

Television causes autism. (From a recent study.)

I wanted to post something else actually, then this has just crossed my mind. Dealing with autism I have heard so many weird theories about, so I want to share them with you.

1. One father of autistic child said that autism is just a phase of evolution, humans will be all autistic in the future!

2. Autism is man made gene - made by terrorists and implemented in west countries to increase government costs.

3. Aliens, they want us to become like them!

4. Mold in a house while you pregnant.

5. Prolonged breastfeeding

6. Mobile phones, microwaves and other electrical appliances

and many others... vote for the worst or add yours...

tash39296.3533217593My vote for the worst theory ever: REFRIGERATOR MOMS ya, the whole refrigorator mom thing is pretty rough, tho i remember a long time ago when my parents were checking out the mainstreaming options towards the end of elementary school their was a myth paper or somethin, and it said that in the past they assumed refrigorator parents, not mother was to blame, of course their were other myths, that 1 stuck out in my head all this time, i dont remember the others.

heh, ya know... im having a difficult time understanding what that means, r they somehow cold, hahahaha. The one I get the most now is "she doesnt look autistic!"...

That 90% are MR really gets to me. I always hear "But he's so smart!" like that is somehow a factor. Ugh.
