walking | Autism PDD

we walk everyday, my son loves the playground, my daughter loves the walk. we also usually see something new each day so they are learning, developing gross and sometimes fine motor skills and sometimes they get to interact with other kids. I have to use a toddler tether with my youngest as it gets quite dangerous when one or both of them has a meltdown.

I would imagine walking is good for all kiddos - fresh air, exercise, time with mom....

PLUS it will give your child to see other kids playing on the swings and slides and he may surprise you and eventually want to join in!

is walking good for our kids or they have to do some play ground activity. because my son doesnot seem interested on thoes activitied i tought i would take him to the park for walking. We love to take walks!  And not only for the exercise -- it seems like it helps conversation, too.  You ahve evern changing scenery to talk about, plus the walking provides a focus other than what-do-I-say-next and it seems like conversation just flows better.  We can go for MILES!Sam won't walk with me. He'd lay down on the path and refuse to move. For
his Granny OTH, he'd walk anywhere! Lately he's been sneaking off with his
sister on a 5 min bike ride to our local shop, which has some play equipt. All
he wants to do is spin, with the occasional swing thrown in for good
measure. Glad they want to ride their bikes, just wish they'd tell me before
they go riding along beside the highway. We do live in a rural area, but
it's still a busy road.I always took the boys for walks, first in the stroller and then with the leashes and then just walking. sometimes we had a destination, but many times not. There was a walking path and we would walk along that and point out things of interest. THey loved it. And it was good excercise for mama too.

Walking is great!  The speech therapist we consulted even told us that walking on uneven terrain promotes language development (something to do with that fact that the ear functions both for hearing and balance).

Sharlet isn't into playing on equipment at all really, she just loves to head
for the hills so to speak lol
I really should take her walking more often, lord knows we could both do
with the fresh air and exercise,,,
