Can't he do the skin test without the topical anesthetic? I don't remember my son getting an anesthetic.
We've done both blood tests and a skin test. Blood tests showed a definite allergic tendency, but the skin test was more precise. For example, his blood reacted to peanuts but he doesn't have a peanut allergy according to the skin test.
Good luck with everything.
i dont knowthe ins and outs, but i read in amed journal today that skin prick ismore accurate than rast/blood (well except prior to 18mos)
my son is the near impossible blood draw. last time we got 4 big vials. distractions!!!! me and his fave intern holding him from the side and behind, no other poeple visible. tried to block his view a bit, and gave him hoards of stickers and a gf dye free popsiickle.
My son went for allergy skin testing by intradermal. They applied the EMLA cream first for an hour. He's had this cream for blood draws since 5yo.
Well------we go back to the office to start testing and they clean up the arms for testing. He's allergic to the cream!!! No testing for him!!
The only thing we can do is the RAST. I'm sad because I don't think it's as accurate as the skin testing.
Good grief! I went through this last week and after 72 pricks and 10 intradermals injections..I wasnt allergic to nothing!
Nope! Can't do testing without the "magic" cream. His anxiety is pretty high. I alreay know he's allergic to alot of stuff----he had the testing pricks on his back at 4yo. The intradermal is the most accurate for allergy treatment. I had planned on doing the subling drops. My 11y went in yesterday. She's not allergic to the EMLA and she tested non-allergic to 2. One kind of mold and horses(good thing--she wanted lessons this year). But of course she was allergic to the 13 others. So....day #2 of testing is on Friday. After my 2 days of testing---I was allergic to ALL except 2. One kind of mold(the bad black mold) and Oak. I'm much more allergic then my 11y. I never even got allergies until high school! It is getting worse--the older I get! Jacob is much more allergic with "symptoms" then my 11yo. He constantly rubs his nose and itches his eyes. Dark circles and marathon sneezing (6-8 in a row!!) If the RAST doesn't show much---I may try without EMLA!
That is totally ridiculous. Sorry you had such a frustrating day!
