My ds is starting Zoloft tomorrow. He's been so anxious/agressive/stubborn and I finally called the doc. What, if any, are your experiences? (He's six)???? Let us know how it goes
My 11y non-ASD dd takes 50mg/day. Our experience with zoloft and other antidepressants isn't good. My 11y goes manic.(bipolar). But since she is on risperdal, we thought we'd try again. This time it's working OK. She has severe anxiety issues. But also since school is out---her anxiety isn't as bad. So, I'm not sure if it's working or not.
Jacob--7.5y HFA took the antidepressants at 4y for anxiety. He went manic also. We have yet to try him again on them. His anxiety issues are tolerable--so unless they get worse, we won't try it. His risperdal seems to be taking care of the anxiety issues.
Yes, my son takes 5 mg of Zoloft daily. He started it about 4-5 months ago. It took awhile to see any real change at all. He needed it for anxiety/anxiousness. It has certainly taken the edge off and I am glad we tried this.
My son just turned 7 in June.
Connor was on Zoloft for 2 years, between the ages of 8-10. It worked great for his anxiety for awhile, then slowly it began to totally backfire, culminating in anxiety levels so high that he was pulling out his hair and eyelashes to help cope. I thought we were looking at a lifetime of dealing with trichotillomania, when I told the psychiatrist that I wanted to try discontinuing the Zoloft. He is still shaking his head at the fact that the hair pulling completely stopped! It's been almost three years now, his anxiety is extremely manageable (I'd even say at the high end of normal), and he hasn't had the slightest urge to pull his hair since we weaned him off the Zoloft. I'm not saying Zoloft is bad, just watch your child very carefully as they grow, and their needs change both chemically and emotionally. I take it but I am not on the spectrum (at least I don't think I am). My son is currently taking Prozac. It seems to have a positive effect so far.My son has been taking zoloft (now takes the generic brand) and It is working very well for him. He's been on it for about 4 years and his anxiety/anger in lower but still has anxiety issues. We know that when his gets fustrated and begins yelling at us and slams doors, its best to leave him alone for the rest of the day or at least 5 hrs, and he's better the next day.Mine doesn't, but in the book "making peace with autism" I was reading a bit tonight and they put their son on zoloft with good results (so far, I just finished the part where they put him on it a few minutes ago and haven't finished the book). My son was on Zoloft and it was horrible , they switched him to Lexapro and there has been a big change. He is not as withdrawn as before, willing to try new things more than before. Believe me , we still have problems and melt downs but not as many as before. My daughter who has alot of the same issues as my son but is not considered to be on the spectrum is on Zoloft and we have seen a 95 percent impovement in her. It took about 3 weeks for everything to kick in. Again, she still has issues but seems to be able to cope much better than before.
It's so hard because although all kids on the spectrum are alot alike, they are still different in what seems to work for one and what works for the other.
