Social story for moving...

Back to Autism Information >> Next Topic

Hi we are military and have a child who is 5 on the spectrum. He does not do well with change at all.

I need to make him a social story for the move, a new house, new shcool, new every thing...

Not sure how to do this...any one have any idea's

Ryan is 5 and verbal but change is not ok with him at all...

Hi Christi:

There are several links to free social stories in the Socialization link and free links to personalizing stories, calendars, etc. in the Language and Communication links of www.RCMAutismNotebook.com

Also, it may be helpful if you are at the point where you can actually anticipate his behaviors surrounding the move, try to select exact preferrred "opposite behaviors" to reinforce before the "non-preferred" actually occur.

Sorry, I couldn't find a moving story for you.  I do have a list of hundreds of free online stories under the following topic, and you'll find some for new school, new teacher, etc.

The autism society in the UK has a good article on moving.  Here's the link:

Here are lists with books about moving, compiled by two different libraries.  Maybe your local library has some of these books.

Good luck with the move.
